5.1 – Alliance with the Earth

• Genesis 8:22: As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.
• Genesis 9:13: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
• Genesis 9:16: Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.
• Genesis 13:16: I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.

God made a covenant with the earth to show us that we, too, can make a covenant with it. He sets an example of what the children of God can accomplish in this area. Through this covenant, He also shows that we can speak to the earth. This is why, in the book of Jeremiah 22:29, it is written: “O land, land, land, hear the word of the Lord!”

Thus, the earth listens to the word of the Lord. This implies that it hears any voice speaking to it because God has given it the ability to hear.
