AS HE IS, SO ARE WE.
The expression “like father, like son” aptly demonstrates that one can only resemble or be of the same nature as the one who gave us life. Similarly, as creatures of God and knowing that He has revealed Himself to all as a Father, it is up to every parent to turn their gaze towards Him. For God has foreseen everything; He has fully understood the heavy task that is yours, dear parent, and thus He has shown what it means to be a parent and what it entails.
God created man to be in perpetual communion with Him; He made man in His likeness, and there were no barriers between Him and His creation. But the devil, jealous of this intimacy, cunningly intervened, and through disobedience, man disconnected from God. Sin became a barrier, and man was cast out from God’s presence.
Over time, God presented Himself to mankind as a master, the Lord of hosts, the mighty and powerful God, the Lord our banner, the great “I Am”… God with prophets or judges as His only intermediaries. This situation seemed suitable, but God wanted more; He wanted to regain the closeness He once had with man.
He didn’t want men to serve Him out of fear; He wanted to present Himself as a Father. A solution was needed! Men needed to be saved from the tyranny of the devil. But God could not leave His throne.
The call was made in heaven, and only one was found worthy to accomplish this great task of salvation: JESUS CHRIST. It was then that God gave what was most precious to Him for our salvation: His Son. Through this act, we understand the significance of the status of being a parent. It is not enough to bring children into the world or to have “love” for your child to earn the title of parent; it must be true love, like God’s love.
He has shown us that a parent is one who gives of themselves for their child. A parent is one who gives what is most precious for the salvation of their child. A parent is one who ensures that every action they take has the sole objective of drawing their children closer to JESUS and to Him, for as He is, so are they (Revelation 22:16).
I pray that this love may be perfected in you for the well-being of your children, and that the ability to love your child as you should will be your portion; as defined in this passage from Corinthians:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
