ASPIRE TO HEAVENLY TREASURES.
“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:20 (to memorize)
As I mentioned earlier, the earth is full of hidden treasures that many would love to discover and claim as their own. Throughout the centuries, treasure hunting has been a major human activity. No matter where these treasures are located, the effort required, or the means needed to obtain them, nothing has ever stopped people in their quest for treasures. Everyone who finds treasure sees their life transformed and becomes wealthy.
Many have found and/or accumulated earthly treasures, gaining wealth, but they have not necessarily found happiness, peace, or fulfillment.
The brothers Diederik Arnoldus and Johannes Nicholas de Beer are the founders of the renowned company “De Beers,” a leader in luxury jewelry. Their success story begins on their diamond fields in South Africa, in the Kimberley region, where they discovered their first diamond in 1866.
Since then, their descendants have never known poverty. Such discoveries don’t happen to everyone, but there are several examples throughout history. Hmm, I can see you’re tempted to grab a shovel and start digging in your neighborhood, but keep reading.
Material and financial wealth—this is what earthly treasures can offer. Many have found and/or accumulated earthly treasures, becoming rich, but they have not necessarily found happiness, peace, or fulfillment. Some squandered everything, others were robbed or scammed, and still, others failed to find the meaning of their true needs.
A Chinese proverb states: “Money can buy a house, but not a home. It can buy a bed, but not sleep. It can buy a clock, but not time. It can buy a book, but not knowledge. It can buy a position, but not respect. It can buy sex, but not love!“
And you could probably extend this list almost infinitely. While God did create earthly treasures, they are clearly insufficient to bring true happiness, genuine prosperity—in short, real blessing. This is why the Lord Jesus Christ urges us not to store up riches on earth but instead to seek the treasures that are in heavenly places.
Yes, God has prepared special treasures in heaven for those who belong to Him. These treasures, which no one can steal, squander, or destroy, are far superior to those of the earth. What treasures does your heart long for? Examine yourself.
Let us pray together:
My soul, I command you to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and its righteousness.
Today’s action:
True treasures are heavenly treasures. Strive to gather those.
