BELIEVING A LIES IS ENOUGH TO LOSE PEACE
When an automobile manufacturer creates a vehicle, they ensure that it operates optimally and provides a certain level of satisfaction to the user. However, the manufacturer takes care to provide numerous instructions to the user to enable them to fully enjoy their vehicle. They also warn the user about several things to avoid doing, as failure to follow these instructions will cause the vehicle to malfunction.
For example, the manufacturer instructs the driver not to put gasoline in the fuel tank when the vehicle is a diesel. Using gasoline instead of diesel will force the vehicle to malfunction.
Similarly, when God created us, He warned us about the things we should never allow into our lives if we want to continue functioning normally—meaning with inner peace. God’s instructions are clear on this matter. In the book of Deuteronomy, He tells us that we can choose between truth or lies, life or death, God or the devil. The choices we make will determine the quality of our inner life.
“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep His commands, decrees, and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.” Deuteronomy 30:15-18
We see that we can choose to remain faithful to God—meaning to the truth—and thus the plans of peace for us will be fulfilled. We can also choose to follow lies, and in that case, the enemy’s plans will manifest—meaning inner turmoil and all its consequences.
In his letter to the Romans, the apostle Paul reminds us again that man holds the power to choose whom he will obey, between truth and lies, knowing that choosing truth makes us slaves to God, while choosing lies makes us slaves to the devil.
“Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?” Romans 6:16
It is therefore very important for all of us to realize that the quality of our life does not depend on circumstances. The quality of our life depends exclusively on what we choose to validate in our hearts. Only the consistent validation of truth guarantees us a peaceful life. Any lie we validate, consciously or unconsciously, will harm us in terms of inner peace…
