BEWARE OF DISTRUST.
“Love bears all things in any circumstance, it is always ready to believe the best of every person …” 1 Corinthians 13:7
I must sincerely admit that obeying this verse has always been a challenge for me. I grew up being distrustful. In fact, I was taught to distrust everyone, especially kind people who, obviously, would take advantage of the situation.
Not only was I taught to distrust people and their motives, but I also went through several very disappointing experiences, not only before becoming a committed Christian, but even afterward. Meditating on the components of love and realizing that love always believes the best has greatly helped me develop a new way of thinking.
If your thoughts have been poisoned, or if Satan has established strongholds in your mind, you need to renew them through the Word of God. This is achieved by learning the Word and meditating on it (reflecting on it, murmuring it to yourself, thinking about it).
The wonderful Holy Spirit gives us a nudge when our thoughts begin to head in the wrong direction. When I start to harbor thoughts of distrust instead of love, God warns me.
Trust and joy produce life and allow relationships to reach their full potential.
Good things don’t happen by chance. Spirit of judgment, criticism, and suspicion. Distrust deteriorates relationships and can even destroy them.
Here is the key: God’s ways are productive, but man’s ways are not. God forbids judgment, criticism, and distrust; we should do the same. Love what God loves and hate what He hates. Allow what He allows and forbid what He forbids.
The best approach: a balanced attitude. Of course, we must exercise wisdom and discernment in our relationships. We shouldn’t tell everyone our life story, thus giving them the opportunity to destroy us.
On the other hand, we shouldn’t view others negatively and distrustfully, always expecting to be taken advantage of…
