ANDREW MURRAY (1828-1917) is widely recognized as one of Christendom’s foremost authorities on prayer. The South African theologian wrote prolifically on the deeper spiritual life.
As a young man, Andrew Murray wanted to be a minister, but it was a career choice rather than an act of faith. Not until he had finished his general studies and begun his theological training, in the Netherlands, did he experience a conversion of heart. In a letter to his parents, Murray wrote, “Your son has been born again. I have cast myself on Christ.”
He studied theology at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Then he pastored in South Africa and helped establish what is now the Orange Free State and the Stellenbosch Seminary. He works for the Dutch Reformed Church and is president of various Protestant organizations and orator in various countries.
He obtained an honorary doctorate from the University of Aberdeen and the University of Cape Town.
It publishes around 240 books, translated into different languages. Its particular commitments are those of the Christian mission and of a Christian life rooted in the work of Christ and in the Bible
