Darien B. Cooper, a widow, mother, lecturer, and esteemed author, has left an indelible mark through her insightful writings. Among her notable works is the bestselling book, “You Can be the Wife of a Happy Husband,” which has sold over a million copies worldwide. Darien’s journey began at Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, where she graduated with a degree in Sociology, along with double minors in Psychology and Mathematics. Her practical teachings on the woman’s role in marriage and wholehearted devotion to Jesus Christ have transformed numerous lives, both in the United States and abroad.

Darien and her late husband, DeWitt, served as associate staff members with Campus Crusade for Christ Lay Ministry during the early 1970s. In the mid-1980s, they embarked on an eight-year missionary endeavor with Family Consultation Service, a ministry dedicated to serving the impoverished communities of inner-city Atlanta, Georgia. During this time, DeWitt’s compassionate heart led him to construct approximately 80 houses, while Darien played a pivotal role in family selection and community building. This period marked a profound shift in every aspect of their lives, as they embraced the life of faith as missionaries in a foreign culture. While DeWitt responded to a clear “calling,” Darien felt providentially compelled. Both experienced miraculous interventions from God. By the time they settled in Atlanta, Darien could have contentedly lived there for the rest of her life, having developed a deep empathy for the needy. However, God had a different assignment in mind.

In 1993, after residing in Atlanta for 35 years, the couple relocated to north Georgia. Accompanied by DeWitt’s mother and two of their sons with their families, they settled in the Dalton area, where their youngest son had already established roots. For sixteen months, four generations resided under one roof until their middle son’s house was completed. A year later, their youngest son and his family stayed with them temporarily while their own house was being constructed on the original 26-acre property. Darien chronicled the lessons learned from this intimate coexistence and the subsequent release of loved ones into her book, “You Can Be the Happy Mom of an Empty Nest,” published in 1999.

In subsequent years, DeWitt’s mother passed away, and their oldest son and his family made their home in the original house, while DeWitt and Darien moved into expanded quarters on the lower level. Additionally, Darien’s sole sibling, Jan, along with her spouse and their parents, built homes on the same property. Two of Jan’s married children also relocated to the area. This unique “circling of wagons,” orchestrated by God, proved to be a remarkable opportunity for Darien and her family to purify their relationships and untangle the complexities of human nature in this intimate setting. Such a manifestation was beyond Darien’s wildest imagination, showcasing the mightiness of God’s ways.

Darien and DeWitt’s legacy expanded with twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, representing a flourishing generational heritage.

After three decades of astonishing success, “You Can Be the Wife of a Happy Husband” underwent revision and was released as the 2011 edition. This enhanced version incorporates personal examples, solidifying its reputation as the pinnacle of marital guidance. The timeless truths shared within are equally applicable to both genders.

Tragically, DeWitt’s passing occurred in 2016, following nearly 60 years of marriage. His departure ushered in Darien’s latest book, “The Spirit and the Bride Say, ‘Come!'” This poignant sequel to “You Can Be the Wife of a Happy Husband” reveals the..
