The Holy Spirit employs various methods to lead the believer into a real time of communion with Him. I call them the “Signals of the Holy Spirit.” We must be sensitive to these signals, which may seem meaningless but are real because God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.

Sometimes, the Holy Spirit may operate in strange ways. It requires sensitivity, discernment, and understanding to access them immediately. These signals are things we all experience in our daily lives without realizing that it is the Holy Spirit at work.

In Matthew 26:36-46, we see that Jesus, our Master and Savior, was sensitive to the signals of the Holy Spirit, which led Him to agony for the sake of the mission. The victory of the Cross was won in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus agonized in prayer, seeking to know God’s will. His heart was very heavy and sorrowful; Jesus knew it was not easy, but it was a time of communion with the Father.

If you want to enter on time into what God is doing, you must strive to be sensitive and ready to respond promptly to the signals that the Holy Spirit uses to lead you into communion. Let us try to discern the signals and the various means by which the Holy Spirit invites us to communion. By God’s grace, I will attempt to explain these methods, instructions, and signals in detail to clarify them better: The Signals of the Holy Spirit:

The heaviness, sadness, discomfort, burden, or compassion that your inner man feels in a specific situation:

All the above signals are methods the Holy Spirit uses to invite us to a moment of communion if we are aware of them. The life of Jesus during His preparation for the Cross in the Garden of Gethsemane is a perfect illustration. He felt so heavy and sorrowful that He went to pray.

When the average Christian feels sadness, worry, or heaviness, they resort to television, a bottle of beer, or something else to calm their spirit, not knowing that the Holy Spirit is calling them to a time of communion. Perhaps a battle is looming on the horizon against you, or a promotion has left God’s hand for you, and the Holy Spirit wants you to persist in prayer to overcome the enemy so that your blessings may be released to you.

If you do not react in time, you might open a door to the devil’s attack and miss out on the blessing! There are times in life when everything seems to be going well for you. You see nothing at all, but inside, there is this worry, heaviness, or sorrow that weighs on you and suffocates you, but you cannot identify the source of the sorrow. It is a call to communion from the Holy Spirit. Allow me to share my testimony on this subject.

In 1996, I had many transport buses, and my younger brother took care of the maintenance. So, that day, my brother went to buy spare parts to repair one of the buses that had broken down. I was at home, and suddenly, I felt heavy, uncomfortable, and sad, and I knew something was wrong somewhere.

I entered an intense moment of praying in tongues to the point that the neighborhood began to wonder what was happening because I was praying so loudly. I prayed until I felt I had achieved a breakthrough, then I dressed and left the house. Less than an hour after I left, I felt I needed to return.

Barely five minutes later, I saw a yellow taxi pull up, and when I got out, I saw my younger brother getting out. I then noticed he had bruises all over his body, and I asked what had happened to him. He began to recount what he had just experienced. He was on a bus to buy spare parts in town when the bus had an accident. There were many serious injuries and deaths.

Let’s see the essential part of the testimony; he said that when the bus had the accident, someone entered, grabbed him, and threw him out the window. He fell, and that was how he got hurt. Who was this person who had come to lift him? It was an angelic visitation and help from the heavenly army who intervened in time because I had the intuition to pray without knowing why, but the Holy Spirit knows and intercedes for us with unutterable groanings.

Now the question is: what would have happened if I had not prayed when I felt the discomfort, heaviness, and sadness? Perhaps my brother would have died in that accident. We must be sensitive and reactive when the Holy Spirit calls us through His signals.

Overflowing joy or peace in the face of a difficult situation:

This happens to many people, but they fail to discern that the Holy Spirit uses this signal to call them to commune with Him. Sometimes, in the face of your struggles, difficulties, and multiple problems, you feel overflowing peace and joy in your heart. It is the Holy Spirit inviting you to a time of communion with Him.

All you need to do in such circumstances is worship God, pray in tongues, and sing in the spirit. There may be a victory or a significant breakthrough coming to you, and that is why the Holy Spirit prompts you to respond by communing with Him.

Lack of sleep at night:

There are times when you try to sleep at night but cannot, and you wonder what is happening. It is clear evidence that the Holy Spirit has intended this moment to be a time of communion with Him. But many people ignore this means of communication from the Holy Spirit due to a lack of sensitivity and misunderstanding of His work.

In such circumstances, the average Christian tends to believe that demons are preventing them from sleeping and even quotes Bible verses such as, “God gives sleep to His beloved” to combat the anti-sleep demons.

Some will watch multiple TV series just to pass the time, unaware that the Spirit of God wants them to turn those moments into a real time of prayer and communion with Him. Because there may be a promotion in view or an imminent attack that the Holy Spirit has identified in the spiritual realm, and He wants you to partner with Him.

Very often, due to a lack of timely reaction, spiritual, physical, or material damage can result. As soon as you notice that sleep has left you, seize the opportunity to commune with the Holy Spirit, and you will experience an extraordinary result.

Lack of peace in your mind, even if everything seems to be going well:

Lack of peace and worry is already a clear indication that something is wrong spiritually if you are sensitive because God operates in the midst of peace. He is a God of peace. He came to give us peace. Everything may seem normal, but inside you, there is a void and a sense of lack of peace.

The Holy Spirit may use this sign to lead you into a time of communion with Him. All you need to do is maximize the opportunity and enter into real communion with Him, and…
