DIVERGENCE IN COMMUNION PRACTICES.
Another issue that remains very lively when discussing Communion is its practice.
● Differences in practices in places of worship
Some celebrate it once a year, saying that Jesus did it only once, just before His death. Others practice it once a month, weekly, or at other intervals.
● Differences in practices in individual homes
Some Christians practice it in their family home with their spouse and children, while others do not. Some people living alone refuse to practice it, arguing that when Jesus established Communion, He did so in the presence of His twelve disciples. Meanwhile, others who live alone choose to practice it solo in their homes.
As you can see, the issues are numerous. We must not ignore them, as studying these different practices demonstrates how important this topic is within the Christian community. This is why the seven dimensions of Communion provide us with valuable insight.
A Christian must keep these seven dimensions in mind to grasp the significance of this meal. As mentioned above, some see it as a purely natural act of commemoration, while others perceive its spiritual significance.
The seven dimensions of Communion help us understand its many facets. These dimensions must be approached together to uncover the hidden meaning of the Lord’s Supper.
Points of Convergence in Interpretation
It is interesting to note several points of convergence:
First, all Christians agree that it must be practiced. There is no dispute on this point. Second, all recognize that without Communion, Christian life lacks a central and essential element that distinguishes it from all other forms of spirituality.
