DIVINE CONNECTION FROM THE WOMB.
“While she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, ‘This one came out first.’ But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out instead.” (Genesis 38:28-29)
Divine connections are birthed in the spiritual realm before manifesting in the physical world. The joy and blessings we witness in a person’s life often stem from supernatural guidance. Satan’s rebellion against God’s authority led to his downfall and subsequent expulsion from heaven to the earth.
“And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.” (Revelation 12:7-8)
This conflict in the spiritual world had profound effects in the physical realm, as we see the earth became formless and empty, and darkness covered the surface of the deep. A remarkable divine connection emerged in the story of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, born to Leah. (Genesis 29:35) Judah married a Canaanite woman named Shua, and they had three sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah. Er, the firstborn, died due to his wickedness. Judah then instructed Onan to marry his brother’s widow, Tamar, to provide offspring for his brother.
However, Onan refused to fulfill his duty and also died because of his disobedience. These tragic events frightened Judah, who hesitated to give his third son, Shelah, in marriage to Tamar, as it is written: “He did so out of fear that Shelah might die like his brothers.” (Genesis 38:11)
This upsetting situation led Tamar, dissatisfied that Judah had not given her Shelah as a husband, to disguise herself as a prostitute and conceive a child with him. Judah only discovered the deception later. Yet, despite Judah’s error, something extraordinary occurred: Tamar bore twins, linked by divine providence. During childbirth, one of the twins extended his hand first. The midwife marked him as the firstborn by tying a scarlet thread to his hand.
However, the child suddenly withdrew his hand, as if to say, “I am not the first.” In the end, his brother was born in his place. In the biblical narrative, the first twin was named Perez, meaning “breach” or “opening,” while his twin brother was named Zerah, meaning “radiance” or “brightness.”
This spiritual symbolism suggests that Perez paved the way for Zerah to shine in his full brilliance. This interpretation highlights Perez’s role as a forerunner or initiator, making a path for Zerah’s success and fulfillment.
Indeed, divine connections are moments when God directly intervenes in our lives to open pathways of destiny—doors of blessing that we could never open on our own. I pray that God will open a path for you in the name of Jesus…
