DO YOU WANT TO BE HONORED? THERE IS A PRICE TO PAY!
Today, everyone wants to be honored and reach the top. This desire is legitimate, since within every human being lies a seed of royalty, as we are made in the image of God. However, some people struggle with the idea that a believer can be honored—often because they confuse humility with humiliation.
“Jesus answered, ‘You don’t know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?’ ‘We can,’ they answered.” — Matthew 20:22
There are no shortcuts, and nothing can replace obedience to the voice of the Lord.
The sons of Zebedee asked to be distinguished alongside Jesus. He did not rebuke them for their request. He simply made them understand that all who wish to reign with Him must drink the cup (2 Timothy 2:12).
We are living in a fast-food era where everyone wants to wear the golden crown, but very few are willing to bear the crown of thorns. The popularity of some ministries gives many believers the impression that there’s a quick formula for success. But the truth is, there are no shortcuts, and nothing can replace obedience to the voice of the Lord.
John Maxwell once said: “In life, you have two choices: either you pay now and play later; or you play now and pay later. But in all cases, life will demand its due.”
In other words, only those who drink the cup are worthy of honor. For honor cannot be claimed—it must be earned. It does not come from diplomas or self-appointed titles, but from accomplishments, that is, from the results you produce.
David was honored for defeating Goliath. Jesus Christ was crowned with glory after fulfilling the perfect will of the Father. Even to the cross, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient (Philippians 2:7).
Behind great accomplishments lie fierce battles, bitter cups drunk, earthen vessels broken, tears shed, and lives sacrificed.
If you are willing to pay the price to help spread the Kingdom of God, He will distinguish you before all nations. Like David before Goliath, He will grant you divine promotion and elevation. Jesus ended all His letters to the churches in Asia with: “To the one who overcomes…” That is the key to distinction and honor. There are no shortcuts.
A Prayer for Today
“Lord, grant me the grace to be counted among those of Your people who have neither defiled nor compromised themselves, but who remain faithful to the word of truth. By Your grace, I will do my part, so that Christ in me may be glorified. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
