Free will is the capacity that God has given to humans to make choices independently, without being compelled by God.
Free will is a divine attribute bestowed upon humans because He created us in His image and likeness. Thus, every individual has been given free will—the power to make their own choices without imposition from God.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness (…).” Genesis 1:26
From the very beginning in Eden, Adam and Eve enjoyed free will, particularly in the face of clear and strict recommendations from God aimed at protecting them from death by forbidding them to eat from a specific tree in the garden—for their own well-being.
The Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17
Thus, when humanity sinned by disobeying God and eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, even though God witnessed the scene, He did not prevent them from acting according to their choice.
Similarly today, each of us is free to make choices and must bear the consequences. God, in His love, encourages us to make the right choices—those that align with His Word and His commandments filled with the Love He has given us.
I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live. Deuteronomy 30:19
God desires your salvation, along with that of your family. To achieve this, the Father sent Christ to pay the price for your salvation. Your salvation is possible, but it is only available through Jesus Christ.
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:15-16
