HEALING WEAK FAITH.
The remedy for weak faith is to act on the Word by responding to the information you have received. If you want your faith to be great and strong, START PRACTICING THE WORD! For example, the Bible says:
“In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you“ (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
So, what should you do? Begin to practice this Scripture in your life—give thanks in every situation! Let your life become an unending flow of praise and thanksgiving to God. Whatever happens, you always say, “Thank You, Jesus”; you praise Him in everything! This is acting on the Word!
You see, the more you exercise your faith, the stronger it becomes, and the way to exercise your faith is to act on the Word. You tell yourself: “The Word of God says, ‘By His stripes, we were healed,’ so I refuse to be sick. I am not a sick person trying to get healed! Sickness and infirmity have no place in my body. That is why I refuse to lie sick in bed, sit in this wheelchair, or walk with crutches, because I am healed by the Lord, because the Word says so!”
This is acting on the Word. You take God’s Word as the only truth and final authority in all life’s circumstances. You refuse to be discouraged by anything that doesn’t align with God’s Word.
For your faith to become strong and effective, producing results, you must be a doer of the Word. As Christians, we are practitioners of the Word. We practice the Word because God’s Word is practicable. For example, when the Bible says in Philippians 4:6-7:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus,“ you practice it.
You do exactly what the Word says in your life. First, you tell yourself: “I refuse to be afraid; I reject anxiety.” Then, you move forward, make your request known to God, and receive peace in your heart. From then on, you refuse to complain, murmur, or act as if the devil has the upper hand in your life. Each day, you praise God because you know He has fulfilled the desires of your heart.
That’s faith!
In this way, you exercise your faith and build your faith muscles. Some people know how to build their physical fitness. Have you ever seen those well-trained, athletic, macho-looking individuals? They spend a lot of time in the gym, maintaining their fitness, developing their muscles, and exercising regularly. They run, jog, do push-ups and sit-ups, all to build a strong, healthy, fit, and agile body.
Do you realize it’s the same way you must build your spirit? Just as a lack of physical exercise weakens your muscles, a lack of exercising your faith weakens your faith muscles.
If you don’t exercise, your body might grow large but remain weak. Similarly, your faith may appear significant but be weak if you don’t exercise it by practicing the Word. You must become a Practitioner of the Word.
For instance, Jesus said in Mark 11:24: “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” This means that when you pray or ask God for something, all you have to do is believe you have received it, and it is yours.
In other words, after praying and asking God for a particular request (perhaps a new job), you should immediately start testifying and praising God because your request has been granted. Your confession becomes: “Thank You, Jesus, I have what I asked for. Jesus said, ‘Whatever I desire when I pray, I must believe that I receive it and I will have it.’ I believe I have received a new job, so I have a new job. Glory to God!”
This is how you act on the Word. You tell yourself: “Against all hope, I believe in hope that I have a new job,” no matter what you hear, see, or feel! You might even attend a job interview and get rejected; yet, you refuse to be frustrated or discouraged. You refuse to accept such a verdict or let it intimidate your faith. You maintain your stance on God’s Word and continue declaring, “I have a new job! God gave it to me when I prayed, and I received it.” Soon enough, that job will manifest. Even if it never existed, it will be created for you. That’s what the Word says.
This is the attitude you must have after praying and asking God for anything. Some people, after praying, instead of rejoicing and praising God for answering their prayers, begin to look desperate and dejected as if God punished them for daring to ask for something. This is not the attitude of faith.
Remember, as I mentioned earlier, faith has an attitude, and it shows whether or not you’ve received what you asked for when you prayed.
The only way to develop your faith and make it strong is to put it into practice, this is how you exercise your faith muscles. As long as your faith isn’t strong, it won’t produce much results. To make your faith strong, you must exercise it by acting on the Word, you must put your faith to work!
When you start acting on God’s Word, you might make some mistakes, but I want you to know that God has accounted for your errors. He knows you’re learning. So don’t get discouraged or let your mistakes weaken your resolve or faith journey with God. Keep acting on the Word.
For example, maybe the first time you tried preaching the Gospel and leading someone to Christ, you felt you didn’t get it right. You argued with the person and failed to convince them to give their heart to Christ. Don’t get discouraged. Keep exercising your faith muscles in this area by preaching the Gospel repeatedly whenever you have the opportunity.
Some Christians have never led anyone to Christ, even after being Christians for ten years or more. That’s sad. They can’t point to a single person they’ve brought to Christ, yet they believe that if they spoke about Jesus to someone, that person would be saved—but they’ve never done it! Why? They’ve not exercised their faith in this area.
Imagine telling yourself with sincerity: “Today, I’m going to talk about Jesus to someone. I will win a soul for Christ today!” You board a bus to work, school, or somewhere else, and you meet someone. Just as you’re about to open your mouth to preach…
