I have what I call the chemical test to determine if someone is on the right path, if they are successfully following God’s plan. This test is a combination of two things: Peace and Progress. If both are in place, then you are pursuing God’s perfect plan for your life.

I will listen to what God the Lord says; for he speaks peace to his people, his faithful ones, provided they do not turn to folly.” Psalm 85:8

So if you have heard the voice of the Lord, you can be sure to experience peace and progress. Proverbs 4:18 makes us understand that the path of a person going in the right direction shines brighter every day.

The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” Proverbs 4:18

And who is the righteous one? The one who is upright in carrying out his mission as commanded by God. Dear friends, if your work does not give you inner peace, then it is not the voice of God that you have heard. Likewise, if it does not make you progress, then you are not doing it right. If four years after embarking on the direction you claim to have received from God, there is still no result or evidence, then you have embarked on the wrong track! Consider this parable:

He also spoke this parable: ‘A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?’ But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down. ” Luke 13:6-9

For three years, the owner of the fig tree came every day seeking fruit, but found none. The vineyard keeper pleaded for one more year for the fig tree to bear fruit, making it a total of four years. If four years after you have started in a particular direction, you still make no progress, be sure that God is not with you in that path. In such circumstances, you don’t need anyone’s advice to get out. Just go before God and say to Him, “Lord, I am lost. What should I do now?” Elsewhere God says to the children of Israel:

When you come into the land and have planted all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as uncircumcised. Three years it shall be as uncircumcised to you; it shall not be eaten. But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, a praise to the Lord.” Leviticus 19:23-24

You should have something to give to God by the fourth year. All justifications for failure are from the devil. You were not created to fail. Some complain about the location of their ministry or their business. You have no geographical problem. Your problem lies in identification. Identify God’s plan and purpose for your life.

Has God commanded what you are doing now or not? If yes, are you doing it as He would want you to? Are you diligent and committed in your work? You are supposed to take a step further each year. Otherwise, know that you are not doing it as expected. You should readjust in that case. Similarly, are you enjoying God’s peace in what you are doing?

If these two parameters are in place, then you are on the right track. If not, reconsider your positions and adjust your aim. Correct yourself.
