HOW TO OVERCOME DOUBT?
1- By focusing on what the Scriptures say rather than the five senses.
You must center all your thoughts, reflections, and meditation on the Word of God so as not to allow the seed of doubt to be planted in your heart. Evangelist Smith Wigglesworth said in his book The Apostle of Faith:
“Refuse to be influenced by what you see, hear, or feel; only be influenced by what the Word of God says. Let the evidences of failure, doubt, and defeat bounce off you like a rubber ball on the pavement.“
The Word of God declares: “Ask, and it shall be given to you…” (Matthew 7:7), and that is what you must focus on after asking God for something. “If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:14) My faith is that if He said He will do it when I ask, then I’ve asked, and I know He will do it.
What you need to know is that when you fulfill your responsibility in a situation, God fulfills His. Your responsibility is to ask without doubting, and His responsibility is to give you what you have asked for. It seems simple, doesn’t it?
2- You can overcome doubt by daily feeding your mind with the light of the Word of God.
When your heart is filled with the light of God’s Word, doubt loses its place. Meditate daily on the Scriptures, let them saturate your mind, and doubt will permanently lose its hold on your heart.
3- You can overcome doubt with patience.
Sometimes, the answer to certain prayers takes time, but you must not give up praying because of doubt—you need to be patient. Experience has shown that good things often take time, so when the answer to your prayer seems delayed, know that God is preparing a fulfillment that will make you forget years of suffering in your life.
“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3)
Many people have missed out on many things—whether with God or in active life—because of impatience. Patience allows you to maintain hope until the visible manifestation of what you have asked God for.
“When faith tends to waver, patience comes to its aid and holds it steady. The strength of patience is essential to sustain faith. Patience and faith are twin forces.“ – Gloria Copeland
Patience helps you overcome discouragement. People around you may say all sorts of things, but don’t be discouraged. Be patient, keep your faith in God, and your testimony will not delay. Also, understand that nothing good happens in haste; good things take time and require patience.
No house can be built overnight and last long—it takes time to ensure the foundation is right. You’ve asked God for something; refuse to doubt and keep the faith. Refuse to be discouraged, and be patient, for very soon, people will see it and say: Congratulations.
Finally, always pray the prayer of faith. Pray based on the Scriptures, pray with the mindset that God must answer you, and stop paying attention to what you feel, see, or hear. Instead, focus on the God who said He will do it—and He will.
