The Holy Spirit wants to be your primary partner in life’s affairs. Therefore, you must be spiritually prepared to commune with Him and enjoy His guidance daily. To be led by the Holy Spirit every day, you need to properly understand His language and take His instructions seriously because the success of your life depends on applying divine instructions. God will always teach you His language: the language of obedience, the language of gentleness, the language of purity, and the language of the fear of God.

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” Romans 8:14

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16

Those who live according to the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.” Romans 8:8-9

Walking with God is a walk in the spirit because flesh and blood cannot submit to the law of God and His Kingdom. The book of Amos 3:3 says:

Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?

God is Spirit, and if you want to know Him and draw closer to Him, you must also live in the spirit.

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit.” Jude 1:20

If you have a prepared spirit, it will be easy for you to perceive the signals of the Holy Spirit because your spiritual antenna becomes alert and receptive. There are several ways to prepare yourself for the Holy Spirit’s communion and guidance. Let’s see how to prepare your spirit for the communion of the Holy Spirit so that it submits to His guidance:

  1. Intimacy and Teachable Spirit: Preparing your mind for the communion and guidance of the Holy Spirit first requires cultivating a true relationship of intimacy and a teachable spirit. Intimacy is familiarity or close friendship; an intimate relationship. Our intimacy with the Holy Spirit determines the extent or manner in which He reveals His person and things to us every moment and every day!
  2. Sensitivity and Inspiration (Job 32:8, Proverbs 20:27): You must not only be sensitive to the instructions of the Holy Spirit but also be inspired by Him every moment because this is how He makes His will and purposes known to us. When God wants to speak to you, He speaks to your spirit-man, which is why your spirit-man or inner-man must always be alert, strong, and vibrant (Ephesians 3:16).
  3. By Meditating on the Word of God: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8 Meditating on the Word of God allows you to dialogue with God because God is in His Word and He speaks through His Word.
  4. Practicing the Word of God: You must be a doer of the Word of God and not just a theorist! “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at their face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” James 1:21-25 The Kingdom of God consists of listening and doing! The Word of God has two aspects: listening and doing. God is not interested in hearers of the word but in those who practice it. Every time you practice the Word of God, He leads you, guides you, and inspires you in a sharper and clearer manner in all areas of your life.
  5. Giving the Word of God Primacy (Matthew 6:33): Make the Word of God your daily priority and your top choice.
  6. Instant or Prompt Obedience to the Voice of His Spirit: Read Luke 5:5, John 14:23, Acts 8:29. Every prompt obedience to even the slightest instruction releases extraordinary and unprecedented breakthroughs.
  7. Praying in Tongues and Singing in the Spirit: (Read Jude 20, Ephesians 5:19, 1 Corinthians 14:2 and 15). The world we live in is a mysterious world and you have to be a mysterious person to decipher a mystery because a mystery is something hidden from men. The book of 1 Corinthians 14:2 says: “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.” Prayer is not a monologue but a dialogue with God. You speak to God and He responds. When you speak mysteries to God by praying in tongues, God in turn speaks mysteries to you; hidden things, strategies, and …
