KEY VERSE: But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom. (Matthew 26:29, NKJV)

Since the manifestation of the kingdom is reserved for sons, God will always provide us with a spiritual father before fully revealing His glory in our lives. Joshua, for example, had a great destiny. He was to become the leader who would guide Israel into the Promised Land.

As a result, one of the first blessings God granted him was a spiritual father. Moses was not just a leader to Joshua; he was also his spiritual father. How do we know this? The Bible says:

These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua. (Numbers 13:16, NKJV)

Thus, Joshua’s name was originally Hoshea. It was Moses who renamed him Joshua. Why is this significant? It was typically parents, especially fathers, who named their children (Luke 1:5-64). By changing Hoshea’s name to Joshua, Moses gave him a new identity and established a father-son relationship with him. Nun was Joshua’s biological father (Exodus 33:11), and Moses was his spiritual father.

Like Joshua, if YOU want to conquer kingdoms and possess your Canaan, you will need a Moses. You will need a spiritual father.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I am grateful to You for blessing me with a spiritual father. Today, may Your mighty hand rest upon him for the glory of Your kingdom. Amen.

Application
As you seek to connect with the spiritual father God has placed in your life, how does Joshua’s attitude toward Moses help you become a true son or daughter?
