The Christian community plays a crucial role in our spiritual journey. The author of the Epistle to the Hebrews exhorts us:

Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:24-25

The community offers us support, accountability, and encouragement, helping us to avoid stumbling.

Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has no one to help him up! — Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (Second 1978)

When we isolate ourselves from other believers, we become more susceptible to stumbling. The example of Thomas, who was not with the other disciples when they saw the risen Jesus (John 20:24-29), illustrates how the absence of community can lead to doubts and stumbling in our faith. Regular communion with brothers and sisters in the faith allows us to receive the encouragement and exhortation needed to remain steadfast in our walk with God.

Stumbling is a subtle yet dangerous trap that can distance us from our inheritance in Christ. Losing sight of God’s Word, becoming distracted, neglecting prayer, failing to put on spiritual armor, and isolating ourselves from the Christian community put us at risk of falling…
