Lack of Productivity Decreases Self-Esteem and Confidence.
We’ve all experienced days where we did things that didn’t yield much. At the end of the day, we realized we weren’t productive. We were overwhelmed by a sense of self-depreciation. We were even tempted to say that we weren’t worth much.
This happens when we feel like we haven’t done what we were supposed to do. We all have a friend inside us who observes all our actions and regularly gives us feedback. Many call it the conscience. We can’t hide anything from it because it sees everything and knows everything about us.
It’s this conscience that reassures and encourages us when we behave properly. The same conscience accuses us and pushes us to regret when we choose to do what’s wrong. Thus, when we are habitually unproductive, we also become accustomed to hearing the conscience remind us that we’re not measuring up.
This negative voice of the conscience that we regularly hear due to our shortcomings will eventually make us believe that we are insignificant and mediocre. All of this will have a very negative impact on our self-esteem and self-confidence, both of which are essential for any success. Once confidence and esteem decrease, success becomes much less evident.
If we want to succeed, we should not neglect our conscience. It can propel us forward or contribute to our discouragement and failure. It all depends on the elements we provide it. Since we cannot corrupt the conscience, we must always do what is right.
This is why the apostle Paul recommended the Christians in Rome to observe certain divine laws, not only out of fear of punishment but especially out of conscience. One can escape punishment, but no one can escape their conscience.
“It is therefore necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.” Romans 13:5
