Religion holds a major place in African societies. Christianity remains very minor in North Africa, but has become the most practiced religion in sub-Saharan Africa (63%), ahead of Islam (30%) and traditional religions. Nowadays, it is in Africa where the number of Christians is growing the fastest. When we talk about religion, it involves a multiplicity of beliefs.

We could define them as a set of accessible truths, because we do not believe in everything. It is from this perspective that we talk about limiting beliefs. We can distinguish at least ten major ones in our daily lives:

  1. I am not capable
  2. I am too old or too young
  3. I do not have enough time
  4. I am not smart enough
  5. I do not have enough experience
  6. I do not have money
  7. I will not succeed
  8. This enterprise is inaccessible
  9. There is no work, to get it, you have to consort with the devil.

I leave it to you to complete the tenth belief based on what you observe as your limits. They stem from our fears. However, it is only a state of mind or a belief about yourself or about the things that hold you back. They are just false ideas you have about yourself and what you see in yourself concerning things. You look at the evidence and you get scared. The fear of not reaching the goal paralyzes you.

The worst part is that it will prevent you from undertaking what you will succeed in. This comes from what you see and how you see it. The majority has only one perspective, and what if it does not work? But why not also say, what if it works? What you see directs your steps, the less enlightened you are, the less you will act effectively.

Your limiting beliefs eradicate from your field of vision the truths you do not believe in, and consequently impose a threshold of life beyond which will be impossible or abnormal for you. It comes from the synthesis between the evidence of your potential, the knowledge you have of yourself, and unfavorable circumstances. It is the illusion of a mismatch between our assets and our perception…
