We tend to consider lust as an extreme and inappropriate physical attraction towards another person, but it’s possible to lust after all sorts of things like money, real estate, objects, and of course, other people. Lust compels people to seek the acquisition of things contrary to the will of God. It includes all feelings or desires that lead to focusing on earthly goods or selfish practices, such as personal interests, desires, passions, and appetites, rather than on obeying God’s commandments.

Brothers and sisters, lust is an intense and insatiable desire to possess what does not belong to us, to ardently desire what our neighbor possesses. It’s a temptation that presents itself to us in various forms throughout our journey. But the good news is that the Word of God guides us and teaches us how to overcome this lust. In this part of my book, I would like to take us through examining what the Bible says about it and discovering the keys to living a life freed from lust.

The destructive nature of lust.

Lust is a powerful force that can quickly take control of our hearts and minds. It urges us to envy, desire, and seek material things beyond our legitimate needs. The Bible warns us of the disastrous consequences of lust. In the epistle of James 1:14-15, it is written:

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

Lust can lead us away from God, lead us to disobedience, and drag us into a destructive cycle of sin.
