Marriage: An Enterprise with Many Shareholders.
Every institution or organization must be profit-oriented, and it is this drive for profit that motivates shareholders to invest in the organization. Marriage can be likened to an enterprise with many shareholders. In the institution of marriage, the shareholders include God and His Kingdom, the involved couple, children, in-laws, friends, society, and the nation.
Thus, if the enterprise fails to make a gain or completely fails, the various shareholders will surely lose their interests or the invested capital (Isaiah 48:17). No one invests at a loss unless the person is a fool (Luke 14:28). It is good to start, but starting is not the problem; rather, it is the finishing that matters, and not just finishing, but finishing well!
Many people start well but are poor finishers. It is dangerous and painful to have a failed marriage! Anything else can slip through your hands, but not your marriage, because the only thing man left the Garden of Eden with after the fall was marriage! Therefore, the principle of marriage must be fully respected for it to work.
Principles are invisible rules that control how things should function. So, whether you see them or not, they exist. A good example is the force of gravity. You cannot overcome it unless another force, called the aerodynamic force or lifting force, is put in place. The Holy Spirit can give you elevation if you allow Him and invite Him into your marriage.
