For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.” Psalm 107:9

While watching a documentary on the psychology of the soul, I was able to observe and distinguish three fundamental needs of the soul:

  1. A soul needs rest. This is why sleep and naps are vital for our quality of life. When we rest, we reduce stress, tension, and the overload of excessive activity.
  2. A soul needs order. Someone who lives in disorder and lacks hygiene damages their soul. The soul reflects the external state. When we tidy our house and clean it thoroughly, this external cleanliness reaches the soul.
  3. A soul needs encouragement. I remember a phrase I read in a book: “Encouragement is to the soul what oxygen is to the body.” It is important to encourage oneself. A starving soul is a disarmed soul. It resembles a deserted island and a barren land.

A hungry soul is a fragile soul. Hunger is a sign of lack. This lack produces anxiety. Someone who has lacked love from their parents or the love of a partner may have a soul drenched in anxiety and sorrow, inevitably leading to a soul filled with bitterness. David said:

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they continually say to me, ‘Where is your God?‘” Psalm 42:2-3

Through this verse, I understood that a soul must find its full satisfaction in the presence of God, otherwise, it will seek this satisfaction elsewhere and reap only frustration and disappointment. For nothing and no one can fill this inner void except the fullness of God.

A soul draws its fulfillment from the Divine Source. The soul that finds its joy in the Lord possesses an unshakable peace. The person who thirsts for God will constantly seek the fullness of God’s presence in their life, regardless of their social status or quality of life. We should not be influenced by the soul, but we must influence the soul.

Praise is the expression of our admiration for God, and this produces positive emotions in the soul: it strengthens and nourishes it. A soul that blesses the Lord is filled with peace and joy. It is filled with gratitude and hope, surrounded by divine love. It is healed of all disease and forgiven of all iniquity.

For this soul depends on the Father and remains attached to the Divine Source. Therefore, the soul must be taught wisdom, whether through individual encouragement or through fellowship. Wisdom contributes to the prosperity of the soul. It constitutes the strength of the soul, providing the power to overcome its wounds and battles. It is then that the soul triumphs over evil!
