OBEDIENCE
“It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:8
As we saw yesterday, trusting in God requires us to give up our own ideas. Giving up our will to fulfill God’s will is, in fact, a definition of obedience.
Very often, obedience is invisible to others, but that does not diminish its effect. The food we swallow disappears from sight once it passes our mouths, but it doesn’t disappear from our body. An entire invisible process begins, which sooner or later will produce visible results.
When I was a teenager, I became a fan of McDonald’s one summer. During the first few weeks, nothing seemed to happen, which encouraged me to keep going. But after several weeks, all the Big Macs I had eaten and forgotten about began to show on my body.
The process had produced a visible result. It’s the same with obedience—it has an effect: it brings health to our bodies, it strengthens us, educates us, and protects us. Its benefits are priceless. The opposite is also true. Just as growth is not always spectacular, disobedience can be subtle and quiet, yet equally dangerous and destructive.
Forgiveness is also part of obedience for us as believers. God tells us to forgive as we have been forgiven. Bitterness rots the bones and weakens the body. Forgiveness releases life and divine health. Do not give the devil any ground to enslave you.
My prayer: Today I choose to walk in full obedience to Your Word, which ensures me divine health. Thanks to Your love poured into my heart, I have the strength to forgive…
