ORIGIN OF THE PROPHETIC.
When discussing the prophetic, it is important to understand its origin. Grasping this foundation allows one to gain confidence when the prophetic is set into motion. First, we will analyze the origin of prophetic language, then address the source of prophetic acts.
Definition of the Word Prophetic
The word “prophetic” derives its meaning from the word “prophet.” The prophetic consists of words spoken and acts performed under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Thus, we understand that the prophetic rests on two pillars:
- Words spoken under divine inspiration;
- Acts performed under divine inspiration.
Origin of Prophetic Language
The prophetic comes from God. It is His language. It is through the prophetic channel that God speaks to the individuals He chooses, transmitting His will and thereby bringing about miraculous manifestations on earth.
- The Use of Prophetic Language
God also uses prophetic language to show those who do not know Him that He has servants capable of understanding His language. Through this, He demonstrates His existence to pagans. For example, God spoke to the prophet Daniel to communicate the meaning of a divine dream received by a man who did not know Him:
“This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold to pieces. The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is trustworthy.“ (Daniel 2:45)
- God Is the Source of the Prophetic
It is God, according to the counsel of His will, who chooses to address certain individuals prophetically. He is the prophet of prophets and declares about Himself:
“I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’“ (Isaiah 46:10)
“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.“ (2 Peter 1:21)
- God Speaks to Pagans and Christians Through Prophetic Language
God’s mode of communication with humans remains consistent, whether they know Him or not:
“It is just as I said to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.“ (Genesis 41:28)
Origin of Prophetic Acts
Contrary to popular belief, prophetic acts are not demonic but acts that come from God. Just as prophetic words originate from God, so do prophetic acts.
Today, God’s people accept prophetic words but often reject prophetic acts for the following primary reasons:
- Lack of understanding of how God works;
- Fear;
- Confusion and blending between biblical prophetic acts and demonic acts.
Prophetic acts are inspired by God. He directs and indicates what needs to be done for an action to have an undeniable impact in a given situation. One significant passage in the Bible that speaks unequivocally about prophetic acts is found in the book of Exodus, during Moses’ confrontation with Pharaoh.
This book teaches us that Moses triumphed over evil because he followed divine instructions, which allowed him to demonstrate God’s power. The book of Exodus is a living testimony of what God can do through a person in the realm of prophetic acts.
