When interceding, you must pray for nations and countries. War is still ravaging several countries around the world, such as Burundi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Macedonia, etc., and we need to pray that God may lift His Name in these nations. Atrocities are being committed in Sierra Leone, etc.: limbs are being cut off from young children aged one to three years old. We must pray for God to intervene, so that warlords may be transformed. They need to be touched by God to stop all these atrocities. You need to dedicate time to such prayers.

You must also pray for the needs of those around you: for your parents, your neighbors, your hometown, and the city where you live…

You need to pray for things to change around you. It is at this level that you must request change and the intervention of God’s hand so that He may be revealed in the lives of these people. Pray also for prisoners; that they may be touched by the power of the Holy Spirit, so that upon leaving prison, they will be transformed. In your intercessions, do not forget those in hospitals, for healing from severe illnesses such as AIDS, which are plagues for humanity.

In your intercessory prayers, also ask God to manifest Himself powerfully on earth. If there is a mission in your city or your region, you must pray and ask God to intervene to meet the needs of the people.

Additionally, intercede for your church and your pastor. May his vision be continually renewed. Ask the Lord to stretch His hand over the shepherd of the flock and the elders so that they may always have God’s thoughts present in them, so that they will not rely on human wisdom but rather on God’s wisdom in their service to the house of God. I will detail this in another chapter.

In your prayers, ask God to bring revival to your church. God will act, and the entire church will reflect God’s glory and beauty. Intercession must also include prayers for friends in need, for those who are absent from church because they are afflicted by illnesses, or those in difficulty, so that God may meet their needs. Pray likewise for families going through division and for all kinds of problems faced by those around you. May God intervene in their situations!

The Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 that God is looking for someone who will stand in the gap so that He will not destroy the land. The Bible also says:

When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. (Ezekiel 3:18)

This is why you must pray and intercede so that God may pour His wisdom upon people and their homes. Through prayer, may people receive revelation and come to the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, just as it happened with Cornelius the Centurion. Pray to change the course of the world you live in!

When we started the church in Tamale, we prayed fervently for Muslims to have a vision of an angel telling them to come to our church. Some of them did, they came, and they were saved. Many of those who attend our church in Accra have had similar experiences…
