PRAYER OF REPENTANCE.
Note: Say this prayer after having written down all your sins. Hold your notebook of confessions in your hands. Take a prayer posture that suits you, preferably kneeling or lying face down.
Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son [your daughter]. O Lord! I have considered my ways and turned my steps toward your statutes. I have acknowledged my sin to you; I did not hide my iniquity. Wash me thoroughly from my guilt. Cleanse me from my sin. I have chosen the way of truth, I set your laws before me. Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; remember me according to your mercy, because of your goodness, O Lord! If I have repaid evil to the one who was at peace with me, if I have plundered my oppressor without cause, forgive me and grant me the grace to make right restitution.
Lord, I run in the path of your commandments, for you enlarge my heart. Give me understanding so I may keep your law and observe it with all my heart. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things; give me life in your ways! Establish my steps in your word, and do not let any iniquity have dominion over me! Deliver me from human oppression, so that I may keep your precepts! O God, create in me a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit. Teach me your ways; I will walk in your faithfulness. Prepare my heart to fear your name.
Lord, let me see your goodness; grant me your salvation! I will teach your ways to transgressors, and sinners shall return to you.
O Lord, hear my prayer; be attentive to the voice of my supplication. My eyes waste away with sorrow and long for your promise. When will you comfort me? Have mercy on me and restore me! Then I will repay what is due to them. Is your goodness spoken of in the grave, your faithfulness in the place of destruction? Does dust praise you? Does it proclaim your faithfulness? Do you not say in your Word that whoever calls on your name shall be saved?
Father, my heart has strayed. I have not walked in your ways. Through this act of repentance, I call upon you, I surrender my life to you forever. I will never forget your statutes again, for through them you give me life. And do not hold against me the sins of my parents and ancestors.
Let your mercy meet us swiftly, for we are deeply miserable. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name! Deliver us and forgive our sins for the sake of your name! Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach from your law, to give him relief in days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked! For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his inheritance.
O Yahweh, restore my honor and comfort me again! My life and destiny are in your hands. Save me, save my family. For I believe in the promise that is for all who fear you: the hope of salvation. Behold, I long to follow your statutes—let me live according to your righteousness! I delight in your commandments. I love them.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light on my path. Establish my steps in your word, and do not let sin rule over me. I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your promises. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your word. I long for your salvation. Lord, let your mercy come to me, your salvation according to your promise! In you, O Lord, I place my trust.
Let me rest in the shadow of your wings. I will remember the works of the Lord… I will speak of all your deeds, I will declare your mighty acts. God the Son, Lord Jesus, come into my heart so I may become a child of God and never perish. God the Holy Spirit, fill me with your power. Amen!
