Torn between feelings of lack and fullness, prey to desire, humans are always seeking something. But while God offered stability and lasting satisfaction for this need for fullness, man gradually allowed himself to be distracted. Driven by trivial concerns, he turned to superficial activities, quenching his thirst for God as he clung to the fleeting.

Etymologically, distraction comes from separating, diverting, turning away, and traction refers to a notion of extension or lengthening. Spiritually, this represents the way the devil tries to divert you from God, ingeniously distancing you to stretch your relationship with the Lord and fill the void with distractions.

Distraction is the weapon of modern times that the enemy uses to distance you from God. He will go through your own senses – sight or hearing, which he particularly likes to tempt and touch your soul. If his priority is to separate you from the presence of God, it is because he is aware that it is the first thing you need. It is, in my opinion, as vital for a Christian as the air we breathe.

Remember that in the Garden of Eden (Eden in the sense of God’s presence), the devil goes through Eve, who allows herself to be distracted and seduced, to distance Adam and Eve from the presence of God. Therefore, I can only advise you to lend your ears to nothing other than the Word of the Lord. But the devil’s plan is also to divert you from your destiny.

Your destiny is the set of plans that God has for you and that will determine your life. The devil thus seeks to divert you from the purpose for which God created you. No one exists without destiny. But not everyone will live their destiny, for lack of revelation.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5).

Do not underestimate the desires of the flesh. Distraction is part of it: Netflix, social networks, gaming consoles, bad company, idle conversations, your captive thoughts, or your burdens are all illustrations. These temptations use your eyes and ears to reach your soul:

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” (Romans 13:14).

It is not about depriving yourself of everything but avoiding excess because there is a time for everything. To avoid falling into temptation, you will need to define your priorities and essentials… and stick to them! But do not worry because you will never be alone. The Holy Spirit is faithful. He will be there to encourage and comfort you as He has done with me.

Previously, we saw that seeking God means desiring Him, and that He allows Himself to be found by those who seek Him with all their heart. The degree of intimacy you have with God will depend on what you seek. It is written:

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8).

The closer you get to Him, the closer He gets to you. But this approach is not easy, which is why the Bible emphasizes the necessity of seeking closeness with God with all your heart because:

Where your heart is, there your treasure will be also.” (Matthew 6:19).

Establishing an intimate relationship with God does not happen by chance…
