THE ENEMIES OF MAN

Know your enemies to free yourself from them.

Man’s enemies are numerous. We are prisoners of our excesses and vices: taste for danger and risk, consumption of more or less dangerous products (tobacco, alcohol, narcotics, etc.). On the other hand, excess in what is best in us can also lead to our downfall; love for a person, for one’s own, for freedom, for justice, for the homeland. In short, man’s nature is already a problem since there is nothing good in it. We have many kinds of enemies. Enemies close to us. Those who are far from us. Are they all dangerous? This book sheds light on this subject.

Man’s enemies are numerous. They are of different natures. This book sheds light on this subject with a critical approach based on realities but also on the Bible.

In short, man’s nature is already a problem since there is nothing good in it. We have many kinds of enemies. And it’s good to know that. Enemies close to you. Those who are far from you. Are they all dangerous? It is up to each of us to form an idea of what our enemies are. You have enemies who want you dead. They may be close to you or far away. When I say close, I mean they can be your family that you love so much. They can be your colleagues. They can be your classmates. I could continue the list. You have other enemies who do not seek your death.

However, they seek to make your life difficult. They despise you, because you have something more than them. “Man is a wolf to man” (Homo homini lupus), in other words “man is the worst enemy of his fellow man”. The philosopher Thomas Hobbes used Plautus’ quote to conceptualize the state of nature (the “perpetual war of all against all”) and the social contract which allows individuals to overcome the state of nature by mutually binding by contract.

The question is whether we should wish them well while ignoring their hostile attitude towards us. I often find my answers in the Bible. The Bible is the answer to man’s questions.
