Prophetic Listening According to the Spiritual Dimension of the Spirit
When God speaks in an assembly of prophets, it is comparable to a father speaking in his house to his children of different ages. The first is 20 years old, the second is 15, the third is 10, and the youngest is 5, for example. Each one will listen to the father according to their intellectual capacity. Likewise, prophets each hear God according to the dimension or maturity of their prophetic spirit.
This concept escapes many prophets during prophetic ministry, as the majority fall into dissatisfaction, believing they know everything about people’s lives or the mysteries of God. However, in a prophetic service, certain details may escape the prophet despite their focus and sanctification. Therefore, they must seek understanding from elders according to the prophetic dimension. Indeed, the idea of a “great pastor” does not exist, but the Bible does mention major prophets (Jeremiah 15:1, Acts 21:8-10).
In Numbers 11:25, we find a beautiful illustration of this reality:
“The Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses. He took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not continue.”
This passage is often misinterpreted by teachers of God’s word. According to their understanding, the spirit mentioned in this text refers to the Holy Spirit. However, this is paradoxical, because the Bible specifies: “He took some of the Spirit that was on Moses.” The Parole de Vie version states, “He took a part of the spirit that was in Moses,“ which implies that Moses had an indefinite amount of spirit.
Indeed, if we affirm that this was the Holy Spirit, it would contradict biblical doctrine, which presents Christ as the only one who received the fullness of the Spirit from the Father to baptize people with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:11, Colossians 1:19). Therefore, this passage speaks rather of Moses’ prophetic spirit, which was superior due to the burden he carried. The dimension of the prophetic spirit upon a prophet depends on the length, width, and depth of their field of action.
It is important to understand that some prophets are established over a single household, while others are set over nations, cities, and continents. This is why the Bible states that the elders who received Moses’ prophetic spirit “did not continue to prophesy,” because the dimension of the prophetic spirit could not be permanent due to the scope of their charge…
