There are numerous names in the Scriptures to designate our God. As a prophetic person, you should be familiar with the many names of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as well as the names of the enemy. We can learn more about God by using the names of God to inspire visions in our hearts of Who He is and How He operates in His kingdom.

Here are some of the many names of God. Meditate on these names, their meanings, and ask the Holy Spirit to show you God operating in this light. Although you cannot teach what you see as doctrine, these exercises will help train your eyes to the realities of the unseen world.

Seeing Elohim

Elohim means “the strong and creator God.” When Genesis 1:1-2 speaks of God, the Hebrew word is Elohim:

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

As you read the full account of creation, from the first to the seventh day, ask the Holy Spirit to show you images of Elohim, the strong creator God, creating the world. Pray this prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, show me Your operations as Elohim, the mighty creator God. Show me images of the seven days of creation. Show me what You are creating now so that I can cooperate with Your plans and purposes on earth.

Note what you see. What did the first living creatures in the sea and air look like? What did the first livestock, reptiles, and beasts of the earth look like? What did Adam and Eve look like?

Seeing El Nekamoth

El Nekamoth means the God who avenges. Psalm 18:46-48:

The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted. It is God who avenges me, who subdues the peoples under me, who delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.

Understand the context of God avenging the righteous from the enemy’s work. David celebrated how God delivered him from Saul’s hand. Pray this prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, help me see Your vengeance on my spiritual enemies. Open my eyes and let me see how You will bring justice for me and for those You wish to serve through me. Help me to see You as the God who avenges.

Now, read the accounts of Saul’s intentions to kill David in 1 Samuel and imagine how God avenged him of his enemies.

Seeing Jehovah Chereb

Jehovah Chereb means The Lord, the sword (see Deuteronomy 33:29). The sword of the Lord is mentioned numerous times in the Scriptures and generally concerns the judgment of the enemy. (see Isaiah 34:6; Leviticus 26:25; Deuteronomy 32:41, to name a few examples):

Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, ‘Are you for us or for our adversaries?’ He replied, ‘Neither, but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.‘ Joshua 5:13-14).

Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the Lord, the sword. Pray this prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, open my eyes to Your operations as Jehovah Chereb. Let me see You as the Lord, the sword, as Joshua did. Help me understand the gravity of this manifestation of Your power and justice.

Now look at the scene of Joshua 5:13. What was the expression on Joshua’s face when he saw the man standing in front of him with his drawn sword? What did the man look like? What did the sword look like?
