Beloved of the Most High God, does fear grip your heart and mind? Or perhaps you are imprisoned by the fear of losing something or someone, of falling ill, or of dying. The Bible clearly tells us that fear “brings torment” (1 John 4:18), which is not part of God’s will for His children. How can the gift of tongues deliver us from the bondage of fear?

Prayer by the Spirit keeps us in the love of God (Jude 1:20-21). Speaking about fear involving torment, the apostle John tells us that only God’s perfect love can cast out fear (see 1 John 4:18). One of the ways to keep ourselves in God’s love is by praying in the Spirit. And as you do, fear will be completely driven out of your life.

Let me show you another passage of Scripture that demonstrates how speaking in tongues can cast out fear. The apostle Paul reminded Timothy, his spiritual son:

“For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:6-7).

In Greek, the word “gift” here is the word charisma, which is a gift of grace, the same word that describes how tongues are a gift of the Spirit (see 1 Corinthians 12:4). Among all the gifts of the Spirit, which is the gift you can stir up at will? I believe Paul is referring to the gift of tongues.

Paul reminded Timothy that activating the gift of tongues is the key to living without fear and experiencing power, love, a sound mind, and the activation of the blessings that are also your inheritance in Christ…
