TALENT AND THE GIFT OF THE SPIRIT.
A few years ago, I was invited to an outing organized by my company. Although the event took place over two days and was very entertaining, I unfortunately couldn’t attend due to personal constraints. Nevertheless, my colleagues thought of me and brought me back a souvenir from the outing. Upon their return, the administrative assistant of my department placed the gift in one of the drawers of my desk.
However, I was completely unaware of its existence until the day I decided to do a deep cleaning (in this drawer that I rarely use, even though it is close to my desk). That’s how I discovered the wonderful gift that had been set aside for me. This experience deeply showed me how easy it is to overlook a gift that has been meant for us, one that we are supposed to fully enjoy.
It is said in the book of Proverbs that a man’s gift (talents, graces) makes room for him and brings him before great people. Ignoring the gifts and talents the Creator has reserved for you is therefore detrimental to your destiny.
A talent is a gift “received” at natural birth. It is discovered, owned, and perfected through experience. The gift of the Spirit is also a gift of God’s grace (Romans 12:6) and is granted to every believer without exception who has accepted God’s life (1 Corinthians 12:7). We distinguish three categories of gifts (Romans 12:6-8): spiritual gifts, ministry gifts, and service gifts.
Moreover, they are intended to be exercised for the benefit of others in the Church (1 Corinthians 12:7). Like the gifts of the Spirit, natural talents must always be used in love (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). This is why you must assess your level of growth by the fruit, which is love, and which has various branches. Discovering and exercising one’s talents and gifts are two actions that require strongly aspiring to them with fervor and determination.
Furthermore, it is important to highlight the strategic role that dreams, visions, and revelations play in our lives. Indeed, these are channels often used by God to warn us of certain past, present, and future events.
Write down the visions and dreams received:
We are asked in Habakkuk 2:2 to write the vision (…), to inscribe it (make it clearly, distinctly, plainly, declare, engrave) on tablets (board, plate, slab…), so that it can be read (call, recite, read, proclaim). Indeed, words fly, but writings remain. Therefore, it is crucial to write down your dreams, visions, whether it is an ordinary dream, a prophetic night dream, or visions (in an ecstatic state, oracle, prophecy).
A vision can be seen as a film where it is important to identify all the constituent elements. To understand a vision, a dream, or a revelation, we must first ask God to confirm if it is from Him, and if so, to help us understand it. This is what Daniel did, for visions and dreams belong to God.
Carefully discern whether a dream or vision comes from God or elsewhere:
- An inner peace about the dream or vision can testify to its origin. For the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Moreover, the peace established by Christ governs your actions, decisions, etc.
- The context and elements of the dream have biblical support. At this level, it is necessary to exercise wisdom and ensure that your dream or vision comes from God. You will precisely experience peace and joy, and you will receive instructions. These are essential keys to closely examine in order to evaluate your dream, vision, or revelation.
