When you live by your sword and serve your brother, but when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.” Genesis 27:40

Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16

By blessing Jacob, Isaac indirectly brought a curse upon Esau: he was to be dominated by his brother (Genesis 27:37). To counter this, he blessed him with a blessing that would enable him to break this curse (“you shall break his yoke” Genesis 27:40). This blessing, intended to break the yoke of condemnation, is stipulated as follows:

  • “You shall live by the sword”: the sword is the symbol of the Word of God: it is through the Word of God, the declarations of the Word of God, that you will overcome curses.
  • “When you grow restless”: this means that to break the yoke, Esau had to be in motion, diversifying his positions.

These two blessings align with the attitudes of the serpent. The serpent was the first cursed creature on earth; God’s curse upon it gave it many handicaps and dust as its food (Genesis 3:14). But despite this, the serpent thrived on earth to the point of spreading into all kinds of environments.

The serpent has only its mouth to feed itself, to defend itself; this is the sword, the sword of the Word (Ephesians 6:17). Your words are your main weapon to neutralize curses. You must open your mouth and bless, speak goodness.

The serpent was deprived of its limbs, but by moving around as recommended to Esau, it developed a whole range of movements and strategies to bypass problems, protect itself, and even thrive.

This serpent wisdom is important, as recommended by Jesus Himself, for the Church to be able to preach the Gospel and conquer nations. Jesus said that to evangelize this world full of wolves, the servants of God should adopt the wisdom of the serpent:

“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents…” Matthew 10:16

To overcome these wolves (demons, evildoers, curses), the Church must adopt the wisdom of the serpent:

  • Knowing how to move and
  • Knowing how to speak.

This is the wisdom of bypassing or the wisdom of the serpent. You must use it to neutralize curses and conquer territories.

In fact, the wisdom of the serpent is the mentality that allows you to effectively use your blessings. It is through this wisdom that Jesus bypassed the territorial curse on Bethsaida by leading the blind man outside the village to heal him (Mark 8:22-26). In Matthew 11:21, a woe was pronounced upon Bethsaida for rejecting miracles, so Jesus bypassed this unbelieving city in order to perform His miracle.

As I mentioned earlier, with every blessing come Capabilities, Opportunities, and Desires (COD). By blessing Man with dominion and mastery, God gave him intelligence and wisdom as capabilities. Indeed, it is by his intelligence and wisdom that Man has dominated animals stronger than him. Likewise, it is through Divine Wisdom that you will subdue all forms of curses. This subjugation corresponds to the first blessing of the 12 blessings of Deuteronomy 28. (See the works “Fully Blessed”).
