Early Rising and Maximizing the Day
Among the many advantages of waking up very early is the ability to maximize the day.

We All Have 24 Hours
Time is one of the resources that all human beings have equally. Every human being on this earth has 24 hours a day. No one receives more hours or fewer hours than another. Whether we are rich or poor, the number of hours that the Lord provides us each day is fair.

I remember one day I was moved to meditate on time, specifically the lack of time. I generally noticed that we have learned to say we don’t have time when we want to communicate to our interlocutor that we cannot or do not want to make ourselves available to respond to their request.

Reflecting deeply on the phrase “I don’t have time,” I realized that it did not correspond to the truth, because regardless of our condition, we all have time. This time that we all have is 24 hours every day. I therefore considered it much more correct to say that we cannot dedicate time to this or that thing, instead of saying that we do not have time.

We Do Not All Manage Time the Same Way
Although we all have the same number of hours each day, we realize that some people produce more than others. Everything that is produced is done so in time. Whether it’s processing a file, cooking food, building a house, or creating a work of art, everything is done in time.

The most productive people are much more aware of the need for longer working hours. These people know that one more hour or one less hour of work each day can make a big difference in terms of productivity and earning money. The less productive people, on the other hand, do not realize that productivity requires time and that the longer the working hours, the higher the productivity can be. The higher the productivity, the more income will increase.

When I was younger, no one had taught me that I needed a lot of working hours to be more productive. Productivity was not the concern of people in my environment. All the people I knew were poor, and no one talked about time management and productivity. Everyone complained about the difficulty of life, social inequalities, government incompetence, human wickedness, etc.; no one thought of taking responsibility by becoming as productive as possible.

You can therefore imagine that early rising was not on the agenda of the people in my native environment. If someone did wake up very early, it was certainly not for reasons of productivity.

When I left my native environment at the age of 17 to live in Belgium, I began to understand the value of time and productivity. I began to learn how to manage time well, to have more and more for activities that favored my productivity. This new mindset revolutionized my finances while allowing me to achieve academic and professional success.

We Free Up Time by Waking Up Very Early
When a person starts their day at five in the morning instead of seven, they gain two hours a day. This means that in a thirty-day month, this person will have gained sixty hours, which is equivalent to two and a half days.

When the Lord inspired me to start writing books, I didn’t believe I was capable because I was still practicing as a full-time lawyer, in addition to pastoral ministry and my training center where I am the main trainer. While wondering how to find time to write books, the Lord put it on my heart to start waking up at four every morning to gain two extra hours a day.

I had to dedicate these two hours to writing. I thus committed to waking up at four o’clock every day and writing a few pages. This work and productivity rhythm allowed me to write a book on average every quarter. I could never have achieved this feat if I had not agreed to start my days before dawn. As long as I continue to wake up at four o’clock, I will also continue to prosper extraordinarily.

Sleep is a Necessity, Not a Goal
When we talk about very early rising, I know that many people think they need several hours of sleep and cannot afford to start their days very early. I also know that we have always been recommended to have seven to eight hours of sleep per night, otherwise we expose ourselves to health problems.

I was also among those who believed that long hours of sleep every day were necessary to be happy and healthy. My beliefs changed when I started listening to the various testimonies of men and women who had achieved great success. I wondered how these people managed to sleep much less than seven hours a night for many years without getting sick.

I was totally delivered from the fear of sleeping little when I understood that the Holy Scriptures recommended us not to love sleep. According to the book of Proverbs, love of sleep is a significant cause of poverty and lack.

Do not love sleep, lest you become poor; Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread.” Proverbs 20:13

How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.” Proverbs 6:9-11

These two Biblical texts show us that sleep should not be a passion for anyone who wants to succeed in life. We must aspire not to stay in bed longer than necessary. The extra time we spend in bed is not profitable at all. It is time that we lose permanently.

Let us decide today to do like the rich by waking up very early every morning…
