THE CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE ON DEATH.
In Christianity, death holds a special meaning. It is considered the result of sin, as stated in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death.” But it is also a central element of God’s plan of redemption. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ conquered death and opened the way to eternal life for all who believe in Him.
The Bible teaches us that death is not something to be feared for those who are in Christ. On the contrary, it is a passage to a new life, a spiritual rebirth. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:55, “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” This promise of resurrection offers great comfort to believers. Death is described as a sleep, a temporary state before the resurrection, where the believer’s soul is in the presence of God.
In this sense, death becomes a moment of meeting with the Creator, a time when everyone must give an account of their actions and their faith. This Christian perspective encourages living each day with a renewed sense of urgency. What would we do differently if we knew our death was imminent? What do we wish to leave behind?
Reference verse: Hebrews 9:27
The Bible reminds us that “It is appointed unto men to die once, and after that comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
This verse emphasizes the importance of living our lives with wisdom and discernment. Every day is an opportunity to choose life, to draw closer to God, and to prepare for that inevitable encounter.
Death should not be a source of fear but rather a call to reflection and action. We must examine our hearts, our choices, and our relationship with Christ. This chapter invites us to view death not merely as a terrifying event to avoid, but as an invitation to the eternal life that awaits us in Christ, and to prepare ourselves for this unavoidable meeting.
So, let us live each day as if it were our last, keeping our eyes fixed on eternity and striving to honor our Creator in all that we do…
