The Difficulties of Prayer.
“Prayer is the breath of the soul.” – Saint Augustine
It is very rare to meet a child of God who does not adhere to the concept of prayer. Anyone who loves God and believes in His power is favorable to prayer. Yet, when the pastor announces a prayer evening, it is rarely among the most attended evenings at church. How many times have we promised ourselves:
- Tomorrow morning, I’ll start my day with prayer.
- But when it comes time to get up and pray, it’s a whole different story…
Some manage to start praying, but after five minutes, they run out of words, inspiration, not knowing how to continue… Some fall asleep while others feel like they are talking into the void. It is essential to understand that there is a battle to prevent us from praying, because prayer is one of the greatest powers in a believer’s life. This phenomenon is not new; Jesus’ disciples faced the exact same challenge.
“And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, ‘So, you could not watch with me one hour?‘” – Matthew 26:41
“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” – Matthew 26:40-41
I have always found it complex to pray every day. It wasn’t for lack of will, but rather due to a lack of method, of a precise and concrete plan. Has this ever happened to you? Days when you feel inspired and prayer seems to flow naturally, and then others where you struggle to get into a proper state of reverence? Maybe even worries or busy schedules have already monopolized your attention… Can you relate? Those moments when prayer seems so distant, stifled by the incessant distractions of daily life…
Personally, I felt a deep dissatisfaction and even real frustration facing this, facing this difficulty in maintaining a satisfying prayer life. It is so easy to pray hastily or simply let prayer slide. The revolution in my life began the day I started keeping a prayer journal. It became my daily appointment, a moment I now look forward to every morning, because it is both easy and powerful.
You might be wondering how it works? (…)
