There are three ways by which you can discover where you belong on this earth.

For God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29

Here, God mentions both gifts and calling. They are of equal weight. They are equal in value, and both come from God. He is the one who calls and the one who gives gifts to men. While everyone has a gift, some are called for specific missions.

There is no creature without a gift in God’s creation. These gifts are what scientists refer to as potentials. Gifts are natural instruments that enhance productivity, things that flow naturally out of you without stress or pressure. They are inherent natural tools within your system, meant to make you a prolific resident on earth.

From the parable of the talents, we discover that God gives gifts to everyone according to their abilities.

To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, each according to his ability, and then he went away.” Matthew 25:15

Everyone has gifts. God is very sure of this. That’s why He said in Luke 19:13, “Put this money to work until I come back.” The gift within you is capable of keeping you profitably engaged until He returns. A life without purpose is a burden. If you ever meet someone going to school and ask them why they go, and they answer, “Well, just to go!”, then you are looking at a dangerous person.

A man’s gift opens doors for him and brings him before the great.” Proverbs 18:16

The first step towards a colorful life is to locate the gift God has placed in you. What has God endowed me with? What is He asking me to do? What has He placed inside of me to sustain my destiny?

When you ask Him to tell you what He has placed in you and no answer seems to come, look within to discover the hidden treasures He has buried in you. Whether it’s a calling to ministry or a gift within you, they are all the same. They are placed there by the same source. When God says, “My son, come!” that is the call. But whether you are called for one thing or another, you were created for something. No redeemed person is a burden. You are a king and a priest, destined to reign on this earth, not to beg or crawl on it.

You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:10

You were not born again to become a burden. On the contrary, through your new birth, you have been recreated as an asset to the world. God had a colorful purpose in creating you. He placed in you everything you need to fulfill that purpose and wants you to take responsibility for discovering the treasures inside of you and using them.

Some goods are delivered to you at the moment of salvation. Your star is among those treasures and only begins to shine when you discover it. So engage your spirit, which is the lamp of the Lord, to search your innermost being and find these treasures. Ask yourself: What is lying within me? How does it work?

Tell yourself, “Direction must be given to my life. God didn’t create me to wander aimlessly but for a specific purpose. It’s now time to locate it. My spirit, examine this issue now, search my innermost being. Help me locate my gift.

As I mentioned earlier, every child of God is gifted. Your gift is an indicator of your purpose in life. Even when He calls, He releases gifts to go with the call.

When I was a child, the marketplace was the most dreadful place for me. I was always uncomfortable there. I didn’t understand why I always had to bargain before buying something. I was appalled by the insults hurled at customers who didn’t want to buy something. That’s when I discovered that I don’t have a natural flair for business.

Many have pursued higher education for which they are not gifted. They try their best in the profession that their training has given them, but their star doesn’t shine. They simply aren’t gifted in that area. On the other hand, you will see someone come into the same field, even without training, and naturally make positive progress. God’s gift frees the system because you use God’s abilities to accomplish a particular task.

Some people will tell you they are going into business, knowing they have no natural flair for what they want to do. They just want to start because their friends are succeeding in business. Having studied business administration at university is not proof that you will be a good businessman. There are others who are gifted in research. They are great thinkers, capable of advancing the world. But they choose to become entrepreneurs.

Success is not a function of your profession but of fulfillment. Never operate under pressure. If you do, you will have opened the door to the devil.

If you are honest with yourself, you will quickly understand what is not within you, those things you do just because you have to do something. You have very little time to spend on this earth. Spending five years doing something that brings you neither fulfillment nor progress is a waste.

There is a gift in you, planted there for your distinction. May you find it at the right time! Discover that gift and live happily. You have been set apart for something exceptional. In the parable in Luke 19, everyone who used their gifts enhanced them, except the one who hid it in the ground. And do you know what Jesus called him? “Wicked and lazy servant.”

You can also locate your place in life through personal choices.

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19

God respects your choices. Not everyone receives a divine call. Some may not even discover the particular gift placed in them, but they will be established in a fulfilling and rewarding life based on their choices.

God made you a creature of choice, and as long as your choice does not contradict His Covenant provisions for you, you have His support. The power of your choice in locating your place in God’s Covenant covers areas as varied as studies, business, and life…
