THE ELECTRONIC NIGHT HUSBAND?
Pejoratively referred to as the incubus (lying on top) and succubus (lying beneath), this is the demon—male or female—that operates in the form of lustful thoughts at night, when men and women are in deep sleep, or even awake in some cases. This spiritual entity manages to completely take control of their will and sexual impulses.
Just as night husbands or wives strive to divide or separate spouses through their exclusive control, so too do electronic night husbands operate. This troublemaker, this disturber, this disruptor, this divider is in your hands, in your bags, in your pockets, and in places we dare not mention here: it is the phone.
The cell phone is an electronic telecommunication device, typically portable, offering mobile phone functionality and capable of long-distance use as long as there is network coverage. Invented by Martin Cooper in 1973, it has become the most indispensable—even irreplaceable—tool of the 21st century. It is found everywhere human activity exists and now plays a major role in most of the tasks we perform, due to its multidimensional capabilities, which earn it the name “smartphone.”
One might be tempted to say that it also serves as a tool to bring couples closer when separated by work, missions, and the like… However, beyond all the good that could be said about it, this tool has unfortunately become the greatest source of trouble, the cause of fights at all hours, the visible night husband of this present age.
Its tolerated presence in the harmony of couples has moved from the living room to the conjugal bed, which is supposed to remain undefiled. One may then ask: is it a friend or an enemy of the couple?
“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” — Hebrews 13:4
