THE ENEMIES OF THE FAMILY – ENVY.
“The cloud withdrew from above the tent, and behold, Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned towards Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.” Numbers 12:10, also meditate on Genesis 4:1-11
Everyone is blessed. It is a man’s responsibility to discover his gift and maximize it.
In today’s fiery Word, we can see how destructive envy can be. It can drive a man to kill his own brother. In various passages of the Bible, we witness envy at work in other families, leading to serious problems. Joseph’s brothers almost killed him out of envy. Envy among siblings is a sign that the devil has entered the family and is at work. In Numbers chapter 12, Aaron and Miriam envied their brother, Moses, accusing him of marrying an Ethiopian woman.
Envy compels a person to always want to resemble another. It is an evil impulse that drives a person to desire what belongs to someone else. The envious one has no peace because they are always preoccupied with what is happening in the lives of others. They always want to be like someone else without paying attention to their own gifts and talents. The envious person never appreciates what is theirs, whether it is good or not. Envy leads people to do evil. An envious person can kill or destroy just to achieve or harm the person they envy. It is indeed a very evil spirit.
Envy tears families apart. An envious person can wreak havoc in a family because they will do anything to harm anyone they perceive as a threat to their ill-fated ambition, even if it means becoming diabolical. Family supporters, bright stars, those with a bright destiny, and those who achieve their goals in life have all become victims of envious elements in some families. Joseph’s brothers would have preferred him dead rather than living to elevate the family’s standard of living. Fortunately, divine intervention allowed him to fulfill God’s purpose for his life.
Envy drove Cain to kill Abel, and even the family bond did not prevent it (Genesis 4:1-16). It reared its ugly head between Jacob and Esau (Genesis 25:19-34, 27:1-45), Leah and Rachel (Genesis 29:1-35, 30:1-24), Joseph and his brothers, the elder brother and the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). Godly families must rise against the spirit of envy to avoid the disastrous consequences that may follow.
By the power of the blood of Jesus, I declare that envy will not find a place in your family, in the name of Jesus.
