THE MAINTENANCE ROLE OF THE LIGHT OF TRUTH
“…At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’” Matthew 25:6-8
Light is one of the essential elements necessary for life and its development. Without it, no life would be possible. From the beginning of creation, God called light into existence (Genesis 1:3-4). Certain specific anointings serve to maintain this light. This corresponds to sustaining inner vitality by anchoring the Christian’s soul to God and preserving it in the light of truth, even amidst outward darkness.
Spiritual anointings activate divine light in the heart of the believer, enabling them to maintain hope in a world increasingly estranged from divine realities. This light is essential to walk on the narrow path of truth.
The Bridegroom recognizes His brides by this divine light in their hearts, produced by the anointing.
The foolish virgins did not take oil with them and were unable to enter the wedding banquet because the light of truth had gone out amidst doctrinal and religious chaos, combined with a careless life. They could no longer move forward without error toward the Bridegroom.
Since the lamp represents the Word of God, which is truth, and the oil represents the divine anointing, we must understand that the anointing keeps the flame of truth burning—without which the believer cannot find their way to meet their Lord.
The Vitalizing Role of Praise and Worship
The Father seeks anointed worshipers, those capable of entering the depths of God and offering worship in spirit and truth. The vital ingredient for this is the anointing of God—without which worship would be lifeless and incapable of ministering to both God and men.
The role of the anointing in praise and worship is closely tied to the revelation of truth. The Bible shows its power to teach. This means that through the action of the anointing, the worshiper is ushered into spiritual realities concerning God and His work. It enables the transformation of otherwise inaccessible spiritual truths into a tangible experience. When the Christian sees and understands, they can then worship in spirit and truth.
The anointing perfumes the songs and melodies from various musical instruments with a divine fragrance. It is what allows spiritual harmony among all the sounds and words offered before God. Without it, praise and worship would be a repugnant cacophony with no spiritual value.
The reason God delights in worship is that it renders a pleasant spiritual ministry to Him. The anointing transcends all the physical elements of worship and gives them a spiritual substance—a fragrance pleasing to the Lord. Without the anointing, all songs and praises would merely be religious content without spiritual impact.
The vitality that radiates during worship is not the result of the artistic talent of the worshipers but the expression of the divine manifestation of the anointing, which enables the artistic elements to become a spiritual language aligned with what God loves and accepts favorably.
Another reason for the importance of the anointing in worship is that the vitality it produces ministers to people just as a sermon does.
A ministry of praise and spiritual worship under the anointing of the Holy Spirit can produce the same miracles as during prayer. I know several people who were healed during times of praise and worship. One woman testified that she came to the Lord because, as she said, “the choristers looked like angels while they sang; the songs were like those of the angelic choir.”
Ultimately, the anointing in praise and worship is the special touch of the Holy Spirit that helps Christians offer worship that is pleasing and acceptable to God—and also ministers effectively to people.
