The “Mind-Spirit” Principle.
For who knows (understands and perceives) what goes on in a man’s thoughts except the spirit of the man within him? Similarly, no one discerns (comprehends and grasps) the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:11)
When we receive Christ as our personal Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. The Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit knows the thoughts of God. Just as only the spirit of a man within him knows his thoughts, the Spirit of God is the only one who knows the thoughts of God.
Since the Holy Spirit dwells within us and knows the thoughts of God, one of His purposes is to reveal God’s wisdom and revelation to us. These are communicated to our spirit, which in turn enlightens the eyes of our heart, namely, our thoughts. The Holy Spirit acts in this way so that we can practically understand what is spiritually transmitted to us.
Normal or Abnormal?
As believers, we are both spiritual and natural beings. The natural part of us does not always understand the spiritual, so it is crucial that our thoughts are enlightened concerning what happens in our spirit. The Holy Spirit desires to communicate this understanding to us, but very often our thoughts do not receive what the spirit is trying to communicate because they are too busy. Busy thoughts are abnormal.
Our thoughts should not be saturated with reasoning, worries, anxieties, fears, etc. They should experience rest, calm, and serenity. In this second part, we will examine several abnormal behaviors, and you will likely recognize yourself in them.
It is essential to realize that our thoughts must remain in the normal state described in this chapter. Compare this standard with the ordinary condition of your thoughts, and you will understand why we so often receive so little revelation from the Holy Spirit and why we sometimes lack wisdom. Remember, the Holy Spirit seeks to enlighten the believer’s understanding. He transmits information to their spirit from God; the spirit and the understanding help each other, allowing the believer to walk in divine wisdom and revelation. But if the person’s thoughts are too busy, they cannot receive what the Lord desires to transmit to them…
