The Prophecies of Speaking in Tongues.
The greatest thing God has done for us, believers of the 21st century, is to give us the Holy Spirit and baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Speaking in tongues is the fulfillment of the prophecies of the prophet Isaiah and the prophet Joel in the Old Testament, and of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
God is the keeper of the covenant and the promises (Psalm 89:34). He will never lie! In Genesis 15:13, God told Father Abraham that his descendants would be strangers in a country for four hundred years, and this was fulfilled in Exodus 12:40-41. This promise was delayed by thirty years due to the lukewarmness and nonchalant attitude of the children of Israel towards the word of God, until they began to cry out to God for divine intervention in Exodus 2:23-25.
Now, if God kept His word to Abraham for 430 years, is it difficult for Him to give us the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.” Luke 11:13
God is ready to give you the gift of tongues, but you must believe it, desire it, and ask for it. What the prophet Isaiah and the prophet Joel prophesied, John the Baptist and Jesus our Savior declared, and this is what God manifested on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2. The Bible says that:
“God confirms the word of His servant and executes the counsel of His messengers.” Isaiah 44:26
Let’s look at the prophecies of the two prophets from the Old Testament: Isaiah and Joel:
“To whom will He teach knowledge? And to whom will He explain the message? Those who are weaned from milk, those taken from the breast? For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little. For by people of strange lips and with a foreign tongue the LORD will speak to this people. He said to them, ‘This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose’; yet they would not hear.” Isaiah 28:9-12
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my spirit.” Joel 2:28-29
There is a great question mark over the writing in the book of Isaiah 28:
“To whom will He teach knowledge? And to whom will He explain the message? Those who are weaned from milk, those taken from the breast?” Isaiah 28:9
“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:12-14
There are many teachers today in the body of Christ who are still drinking milk and not eating the meat of the word of God. Their base of “word” is still shallow, which is why they are lightweight in spirit and in the Lord. The issue of speaking in tongues is solid food and does not concern young boys but older boys who can make their decisions and stick to them.
Abraham Lincoln said that “every adult at the age of forty is responsible for the appearance of their face.” The prophet Isaiah says that it is with stammering lips that he will speak to his people. Do you see that? How can you clearly understand a stammer? It makes it a mystery!
Speaking in tongues is the rest with which the weary will rest. Those who are tired of the problems of life will connect with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues to refresh themselves, rest from their efforts and human inclinations…
