THE PURPOSE OF THE SOUL.
When God created Adam’s body from the dust of the ground, He breathed the breath of life into him and man became a living soul. This soul was the place where God placed man’s mind, will and emotions. Man’s mind, will and emotions had free course. This means that man was not programmed to only respond to certain ‘codes’, like robots. Man was created to be able to think rationally by himself, make his own decisions, entertain his own thoughts and control his own actions.
He had the ability to exercise his will in whichever dimension he so pleased. However, there was one element in man’s soul that made it truly unique, it had the capacity to receive the love of God, not only that, it had the capacity to love God back with His same measure and God was pleased with this because the soul of the man was the one place that was going to allow God to be able to evaluate His love relationship with man.
God desired sons and daughters and he desired to have a love relationship with them. He could not have a love relationship with the angels because their souls were limited. Their minds, wills and emotions were limited to certain capacities and were ultimately designed to respond in absolute loyalty towards God or man’s direct instructions, nothing else.
That means angelic beings loved God because they were bound by loyalty to do so. So whilst man’s soul was created for the purpose of love, angelic souls were created for the purpose of loyalty. Evidence in the Scriptures suggests that in the Pre-Adamic world, God’s angels were created with souls that had a greater leeway in terms of utilising their will concerning their loyalty. That means although their wills were created tied to loyalty, this loyalty was not yet absolute towards God.
The Bible says: Genesis 1:1
In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the earth.
This beginning pre-existed the Adamic world. In the Pre-Adamic world, when God created Heaven, He created angelic beings. Angels were the first creatures that God ever created and they dwelt in Heaven.
After He created angelic beings, he gave them a soul that had the capacity to make decisions. However, the angelic souls, were limited to the will of loyalty. They were not as dynamic as man’s souls that were open to God’s love. The angel’s souls were going to enable God to carry out His test of loyalty from angelic beings but in order to put their loyalty to test, He required an adversary.
There was therefore a need to create Satan, the tempter, together with his angelic beings. They were created with the nature of evil, from the beginning. They did not have the capacity to tell the truth, neither did they know any other existence outside of the darkness that they were. They were the exact replica of the angels, however, their souls had no will and were originally created to be bound to God’s absolute loyalty. Later, after man was created, Satan and his angels would also be bound to absolute loyalty toward man. After they were created, God released them to tempt the angelic hosts, as they had the ability to transform themselves and look like angels of light.
“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” 2 Corinthians 11:14-15
They used this ability to tempt the angels and test their free will in relation to their loyalty to God. Some angels abused this free will and decided to yield their loyalty to Satan instead of God. They consciously left their first estate, that is, their first habitation both in terms of their original dwelling place, as well as the state of their spirit beings in obedience to Satan. When they did this, they sinned and this caused the chaos in the earth that is described in the Scriptures.
“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2
God immediately separated them from the other angels who used their free will to prove their loyalty towards God by consciously refusing to be tempted. This decision instantly turned every angelic beings’ loyalty into an eternal state of absoluteness. For those who proved their loyalty towards God, their state was transformed to absolute loyalty towards God and for those who proved their loyalty towards Satan, their state was transformed into absolute loyalty towards Satan.
However, God did not spare them but cast them down to Hell, to be bound by the very being that tempted them, that is, Satan, in everlasting chains…
