The Parole de Vie and Parole Vivante versions say, “I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel“.

1) A watchman has the ability to see clearly what is happening.

Let’s read 1 Samuel 14:16:“Saul’s watchmen in Gibeah of Benjamin saw the multitude dispersing and scattering in all directions.“

Many Christians are unable to see and hear clearly. My prayer for you is that God grants you this ability in the name of Jesus Christ.

2) A watchman tells others what happened during the night.

If you want accurate information about what happened at night, you must ask the watchman. We need watchmen in our families and churches. My prayer for you, as you read this book, is that the Lord opens your spiritual eyes and ears to see clearly what is happening in your family and church… in the name of Jesus Christ.

3) A watchman is not caught by surprise.

“Then Absalom fled. Now the young man who was on watch looked up and saw a great multitude coming by way of the hillside behind him“ 2 Samuel 13:34.

A watchman is not caught by surprise because they see and hear. They are ahead of the enemy. My prayer for you is that you stay ahead of the enemy of your family, your church, etc., in the name of Jesus Christ.

4) A watchman is there to see, warn, and pray.

“David was sitting between the two gates. The watchman went up to the roof of the gateway by the wall. He looked up and saw a man running alone. The watchman called out and reported to the king. The king said, ‘If he is alone, he brings good news.’ And the man kept coming closer“ 2 Samuel 18:24-25.

A watchman has the ability to see and warn. When they see, they must warn others and intercede.

The Obstacles of a Watchman:

“His watchmen are blind, all of them lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep“ – Isaiah 56:10.

• Blindness: Every intercessor must see, through their spirit, the urgent needs that will lead them to intercede.
• Lack of understanding: God speaks in many ways—through events or signs. A wise sentinel will understand the message God is giving them.
• Loving sleep: When nothing is working, an intercessor loses sleep and stands in the night to pray because the weight of their burdens is unbearable.

When You Do Not Fulfill Your Role as a Watchman, There Are Consequences.

“If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people, and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.“ – Ezekiel 33:6

You bear responsibility when you do not play your role as a watchman. When you fail to intercede, the disaster that follows will be on you.

Prayer:

Almighty Eternal God, here I stand before You. Grant me grace and help me to be a watchman of blessing. Open my spiritual eyes and ears. May I be an intercessor of blessing, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
