THE SPIRIT OF GRACE
“And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace…” Zechariah 12:10
There is a Spirit called “The Spirit of grace!” When at work in a man’s life, its effect is better experienced than described; it is far beyond any human imagination! This Spirit of grace is an integral aspect of the grace of God described in Scriptures. This is the divine enabling that comes upon a man directly from the Spirit of God. It is the same Spirit referred to in Hebrew 10:29:
“Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”
The Spirit of grace makes a man to find favor with God and empowers him beyond his natural capabilities. At best, in one’s own abilities, one can only accomplish so much. Nothing outstanding or extraordinary can be achieved outside of the Spirit of grace.
The good news is that this Sprit is available to all believers who desire it. That is why the scripture in Zechariah 12:10 says: “And I will pour upon the house of David… the spirit of grace…”
God wants to pour out the Spirit of grace liberally and lavishly on all spiritual members of the house of David (believers). When the Spirit of grace comes upon you, it causes you to enjoy and display the favor of God everywhere you are found, and in whatever situation you are in.
It comes from God through Jesus Christ, and goes to affect the particular area it is released to affect. “How do I partake of this Spirit of grace?,” you may ask. We shall examine this here.
How can you partake of this Spirit of grace?
To partake of the Spirit of grace, consider the following:
Become a family member
Before you can partake of the Spirit of grace from Christ, you must first become a member of the house of David (believer) spiritually. There is no gainsaying the fact that you cannot partake of an inheritance from a family with whom you have no affinity.
It takes your being a member of God’s family (believer), for you to be able to access the inheritances in Christ. This, you do, by becoming a Christian, becoming born again, giving your life to Jesus Christ and accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour.
By so doing, you now belong to the same lineage with Jesus, (the King of kings and the Lord of lords; because at salvation, your lineage changes). You can now partake of the outpouring of the Spirit of grace from God.
Salvation, therefore, is fundamental. The only way to be saved is to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. That is the key you need to access the Spirit of grace. In case you have not done so and would like to, please pray the salvation prayer written at the end of this book right now.
Hunger, thirst and desire it
Thereafter, you must hunger, thirst and genuinely desire to receive the Spirit of grace. Whatever you do not desire, you do not deserve. You can only attract to your life, what you desperately desire and reach out for. The Scripture says:
“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” Psalms 63:1
“The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.” Proverbs 10:24
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6
Even though it is available to everyone who believes, God waits on your yearning and seeking before He releases it. It takes a desperate hunger and thirst to access any benefit of salvation, the Spirit of grace inclusive…
