The Spirituality Of A Nation Determines Its Well-Being.

KEY VERSE: I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God… The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. (Revelation 21:2, 24, KJV)

God does not create nations only to abandon them to their fate. Like a loving Father, He guides them. The Bible says: For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations. (Psalm 22:28; cf. 46:10, KJV). Someone might say: “I do not see God ruling over the nations. I see a king in the United Kingdom, a president in the United States, a governor general in Australia, a supreme leader in Iran, and a pope in the Vatican.

Nebuchadnezzar had the same reasoning. While boasting that he had built a royal residence by the might of his power and for the honor of his majesty (Daniel 4:29), the Bible declares: The words were still on the king’s lips when a voice came from heaven: ‘King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: The kingdom has been taken away from you!’ (Daniel 4:31, KJV). He immediately lost his mind. For seven years, he was driven away from people and lived like an animal.

The Bible says that God taught him a lesson so that he would understand that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men and gives it to whom He pleases. (Daniel 4:25, KJV). Behind every kingdom, there is a greater kingdom. Behind every government, there is a greater government. Behind every head of state, there is a greater Head of State. His name is the Lord of Hosts.

Since God is the one who creates and governs nations, their well-being depends on their relationship with Him. The Lord declares through Haggai:

I will shake all nations, and the Desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of Hosts. (Haggai 2:7, Darby)

God is the hidden aspiration of all nations. Without Him, they remain restless and unfulfilled. For this reason, God is presented as both their “Creator” and their “Husband.” The prophet Isaiah said:

For your Maker is your husband—the Lord of Hosts is His name. (Isaiah 54:5, KJV)

The God who created the heavens and the earth is the only spiritual being that nations must love, serve, and obey. May God help us to love Him with all our hearts.

PRAYER
Holy Spirit of God, my deepest desire is to love, serve, and obey God. Teach me to love Him with all my heart. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I pray. Amen.

APPLICATION
Our God reigns above all, and His great love fills us despite our shortcomings. Let us be grateful and celebrate Him in the way we walk with Him!
