The Word of Knowledge.
This is not about knowledge gained through education, science, or theology. What it is about is a supernatural manifestation of God revealing a part of His knowledge. The word of knowledge not only discloses God’s thoughts on a subject or person but also reveals the thoughts of the human heart. It enables understanding of secret things about a person to provide assistance.
It was through the word of knowledge that Jesus knew Zacchaeus was in the sycamore tree. Jesus had never heard of Zacchaeus, but when He arrived under the sycamore tree, the word of knowledge revealed to Him that there was a person named Zacchaeus in the tree who wanted to see Him pass by. Let’s read the account in Luke 19:1-10:
“Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short, he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.’ So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.’ But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.‘”
The word of knowledge can provide the name, age, and address of a person. It can reveal the number of years a person has left to live, the illness they carry, specifying whether it is caused by enchantment, poison, or if it is hereditary. The word of knowledge can reveal the attire a person will wear or the words that will come out of their mouth in specific circumstances.
The word of knowledge can even reveal to a person what you say while lying on your bed. All other gifts act intermittently, but the word of knowledge acts continuously, at any time of the day. Sorcerers have admitted to me that, of the nine gifts, the word of knowledge is the one that consistently foils their plans on an individual.
Indeed, everything they plan to do is known in advance, no matter where they hide to plot their actions. In John 1:47-49, it is said:
“When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, ‘Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.’ ‘How do you know me?’ Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, ‘I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.’ Then Nathanael declared, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.‘”
When we preach or teach while manifesting this gift, the listeners will automatically believe us, especially when facing unbelievers. In Luke 19:30-34, Jesus sent two disciples based on the word of knowledge, telling them:
“Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’ Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’ They replied, ‘The Lord needs it.‘”
Acts 9:11-12 also emphasizes the word of knowledge. God sends Ananias to lay hands on Saul so that he may regain his sight:
“The Lord told him, ‘Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision, he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.‘”
During a prayer vigil in Yako, standing at the church door, I was telling everyone who entered their names and surnames. It spread around that I was a charlatan, so I had to explain that I acted this way thanks to the gift of the word of knowledge.
