Inspired by the text “The Farmer and His Children” revisited in the light of the Scriptures.

Evangelize, labor with effort:
For resources are the least of your worries.
A wealthy Farmer, sensing his approaching death,
Called his rightful children in the faith,
And spoke to them without witnesses:
Grace, mercy, and peace be given to you from God the Father and from Jesus Christ our Lord!

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field.
The man who found it hid it again; and in his joy,
He went and sold all he had and bought that field.

This is why the aim of the command I give you is to break new ground;
Turn over your field as soon as the harvest is done.
Dig, search, plough deep; leave no spot
Where the hand does not pass and repass,
For the rain of the early
And latter season is not far off!

I implore you before the Lord of the Harvest,
Who will judge His workers:
Sow the Word of the Gospel
Whether the time is favorable or not, sow in the fields,
Sow according to righteousness, plant vineyards that will yield abundant fruit,
You will reap according to mercy,
God will bless the work of your hands and multiply you,
For the laborer deserves his wages.

Beware, he told them, of the leaven of the Pharisees,
Of the Sadducees, and especially of selling the inheritance that Christ left us;
A treasure is hidden in this Gospel of Glory.
I do not know the exact spot; but a little courage, perseverance, and faith will lead you to it.
You will find it with the help of the Holy Spirit.

A time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine;
Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers
To say what their itching ears want to hear.

But you, be sober in all things, endure suffering,
Let your life be the living expression of the patience of the farmer;
Plough deeply the furrows of your ministry,
Fill them with the seed of the pure and sound Word.
The farmer who watches the wind will not sow,
And he who looks at the clouds will not reap.

I charge you before Jesus Christ,
Who will judge the living and the dead,
And by His appearing and His Kingdom:
Preach the Word, be prepared in season and out of season.
Take care of the Lord’s vineyard that has been entrusted to you;
Hold His Word close to your hearts and keep the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.

As for me, I am already being poured out like a drink offering,
And the time for my departure is near.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness,
Which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—
And not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.

Demas is gone, false brothers turn their coats,
Their hoes and machetes against us
Here, there, everywhere; so much so that at the ends of the earth,
Slandered, we speak kindly;
We have become like the scum of the world,
The refuse of all, even to this moment.
But the Word of God is not chained.

It is time to seek the Lord,
Until He comes and showers His righteousness on you.
Break up your unplowed ground!
Keep your hand firmly on the plough of the Gospel,
Let the blade of the Holy One go deep and till the stony hearts.
The farmer must work before he gathers the fruits.
So sow in righteousness, and you will reap in mercy.

The sower of the Word was wise
To show them before his death that the Gospel is a treasure.
