And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?” John 1:19-22

This is the great question the world is asking everyone of us now – “Who are you?” People are asking us (Christians) today – “How are you different from us, what makes you special, what makes you peculiar if at all?”

Until you know who you are,you don’t really have a future. You need to know your worth in Christ, before you begin to command attention on the earth.

Who are you? “What sayest thou of thyself?” Who do you know yourself to be? What you say about yourself is important. Many are so bothered about what others say about them.

… I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.” John 1:23

He knew who he was. No wonder he caused such waves! Matthew 3 records:

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.” Matthew 3:1,5-6

Until you know who you are, you won’t amount to much in the race of life. It’s one thing to be born again, and it’s another thing to know what that salvation is worth. Your knowledge of the worth of your salvation, determines how much benefit you can derive from it. God said to Abraham:

Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it…” Genesis 13:14-15,

IDENTIFICATION

The subject of identification is one of the greatest subjects in redemption. That is, understanding your part with Christ, understanding who you are in Christ; understanding your worth in Christ.

“What sayest thou of thyself?” It’s very important.

What is the relevance of your redemption to your life? What is your heritage in the death and resurrection of Christ? How do you relate to the price He paid? What does His death have to offer you?

What does Christ’s coming to the earth offer you in redemption? That is what identification is all about. It is uncovering your worth in redemption. That’s identification. This is very important and very crucial.

Identification is a discovery of what you’re loaded with in Christ; what Christ has made available to you; what He has made you to be in Him.

I consider this subject of identification as one of the mysteries behind any man’s distinction in the kingdom. I believe that mystery, helped in establishing the person and mission of Christ, when He was here on earth. His addiction to the mystery of identification, was the reason for His inexplicable exploit in His earthly ministry. He knew his worth in God! So also, if you get to know your place in Christ, you will command cheap mastery on earth.

Identification begins with a discovery of your root in Christ, understanding who you are by virtue of where you are from and who lives in you and where you are sitted today.

There is no limit to your rising in life if you can understand your root and depth in God. You will come to see that you have enough to show forth the praises of God, through your results.

When you understand your root, you are set for outstanding results, and as you obtain such results, you will begin to command respect in the world.

New birth connects you to a supernatural source, a divine root, and whatever God is worth becomes your new worth.

Isaiah 15:12 calls Jesus “a root of Jesse,” and He Himself declared in Revelation 22:16, “I am the root and the offspring of David…” That’s where we all took off from. He said in John 15:5 that He is the vine and we are the branches. He is the root, and we just grow out of the root to become branches.

So, we are connected to Him, we are united with Him. Whatever He’s worth, that’s what we are worth. Whatever obtains in the root is the heritage of the branches…
